Hey guys, I am new on this site and I recently passed my class2 training, I passed with a company called Central Transport Training which is based in Wolverhampton. I am advising any one and everyone who considers to go with CTT to not to go with them. They are a mickey mouse company who only care about getting money off you and that’s it, Yes I passed but it wasn’t until after a few tests and that was mainly down to an instructor called Wayne who was very patient and very helpful, he actually cared about getting me over the finish line, where as the rest of the staff are very cold and business like. I had to borrow money off friends and family to pay for my course as I was not working at the time and it was very difficult but all CTT care about are bums on seats and that’s it, it is run poorly and they have no duty of care or any sense of responsibility to help you, they just want your cash…even one of there instructors fell asleep recently I here whilst he had a newbie out on the road for the first time having a lesson!!! stay away from CTT

You are not the first to make negative comments about this company but others have posted god reports so it seems as though it depends what instructor you get for the actual training
As to the way the company is run in general, it seems that is not consistent
Hi Rog, I do agree to a certain degree to what you have said pal but honestly mate CTT is a sham of a company which is poorly run and I advise anyone and everyone to go elsewhere.
On a different note to everyone out there, as I have mentioned that I have recently passed my class 2 test but am struggling to find any real work, I am fortunate that I do have a job for a company driving vans they have 1 class2 vehicle which I get to drive at least once a week, twice if I am lucky (they have 3-4 other class 2 drivers). I am currently in the middle of contacting and signing up with some agencies, are there any good ones that I shud contact or bad ones to stay away from? my current work place cannot give me full time work on the class 2 but in the mean time it is experience the couple of days I get but I need stability and security especially now that the missus is expecting our first baby in march…So guys any tips, ideas or pointers in getting work etc will be greatly appreciated, thanks

Just a quick post for anyone looking for a good lgv trainer in rotherham doncaster area. Atlas training car hill doncaster is brilliant. Passed first time on low hours. Rob the trainer brilliant guy teaches you well and doesn’t give you any lessons you don’t need!
Might be a bit late with this , but i’ll put a review of the company I did my Class C /CPC training with at end of last year and start of this year.
The Company
TRUK Training
trucktraininguk.com/
The Kit
Driving in a Volvo FM9 , 04-ish (i think) Box with a tail lift. 4 over 4 gear box.
Well maintained. Lovely to drive and learn in.
Did my CPC on a Mercedes Van. Again, well maintained…didn’t drive it, but was good for me to pass my CPC
The Area
Trained in Bolton, was based just outside a Mercedes Truck/Car sales room. Did my Test in …Atherton? haha its at the end of the East Lancs , through Leigh. Training in Bolton has given me a really good idea on tight city/town driving as the area is tight as a Scotsman’s Wallet .
Shopping areas and driving around Bolton Wanderers Stadium was also a good area to drive as you get an idea of what its like driving round retail areas.
The Training
Theory, they set me up on this Online Theory test thingy, can’t remember what its called but it has EVERYTHING you need to know and pass the theory, Hazard Perception and cpc theory. Dead easy to use, 90 days account. I did it in work, on my phone, on the Ipad at home. When ever I had 5 mins to kill I would read some then go back and do the questions. Booked me to do all 3 tests on same day. Passed all 3 on the same day.
As already said, the Truck itself was lovely to drive. did 4 days in total. 3 training days then test day. Only minor issue was I had 3 different instructors. Felt the one I had on day 2 , who showed me the ropes on approaching roundabouts and such would have been better for me…but its niether here or there now. Training manual to show you how you are progressing and allows other instructors to see where the previous instructor left off.
CPC training was an hours training before the test, shown how to use the ratchet, the tension bar and the chains.
Pricing
In total I think i’ve spent some where in the region of around £1500-£1600. That includes a retest on both practicals (driving and cpc). The Bank manager, the wife, would know exactly how much.
Breaking it down i’d say
£1200-£1300 on training package (All Practical and Theory Tests, Practical training, Online Theory account, Medical, forms filled out)
£200-300 - retests for Practical and CPC Practical
Con’s
My only issue with them really was when asking for prices in regards to me re-taking my tests they would give me the TEST price. It wasn’t until I had saved the money then the conversation would go along the lines of
Them - “Its gonna cost ABC”
Me - “You quoted XYZ last time”
Them - “Yeah XYZ is the test, ABC is the test and vehicle hire”
Me - “Right, lemme speak to the Bank Manager”
Final Thoughts
I would highly recommend this company if you are in the Manchester/Wigan/Bolton area. It seems they are the better run outfit then the rest that seemed to come along to the test center. All the instructors know what they are doing and have all different , and usefull, information to pass on.
I would make sure you always ask the question ‘does that include vehicle hire’ if you are having to re-test though so your not caught a bit short.(hopefully you wont)
I’m not sure if im going to do my C+E with them. Traveling to Bolton from Liverpool and back is a fuel bill im happy to get rid of, If i am honest. So if any one can recommend companies in Liverpool that would excellent.
I wonder how common it is for commercial vehicle instructors to fall asleep while “working”.I remember driving a bus with an old fool snoring happily beside me.
Dan at Hampshire towing is great. Give him a call on 0800 612 9093. Lorry HGV & LGV Training Southampton - Hampshire Towing He’s in the Southampton area in Hampshire.
Having just passed my Theory & Hazard Perception this thread has lots of Valuable information I’m definitely going to be reading more before i part with any money
The main thing about training is Dont use a broker or an agency of any sort and go and see the truck and the place that they operate out of.
Auto or Manual for training?
completed my first day of CPC Saturday and the trainer was saying that some employers reluctant to take on newbies that trained in autos…anyone else heard this OR are most trucks now Autos? i know you can still drive a manual but i want to be prepared for the real life? any advice?

Rubbish comment by trainer as a manual must be specified in most cases when ordering and so costs more
Same goes for day cabs
The training vehicles that I used and the ones that I see going about are rather "tired"looking so they will be manual transmission. If I were training to-day I would want at least a day in a manual because a manual car is nothing like a manual commercial gearbox to drive.
ok thanks for replies guys

Hi first post, completely new to the HGV industry am currently looking for training provider. Anyone have any info in ‘HGV EXPRESS’? the guy I spoke to seems really nice, very helpful, price doesn’t seem unreasonable and apparently they have an 86%-90% pass rate. He claims they have training facilities nationwide, even one local to me run by them plus they offer a work placement programme which apparently many firms don’t offer? The few reviews online are mostly good however I never trust these reviews as someone internal at the company could be writing them you never know. Anyway it seems like he’s telling me everything I want to hear, it all sounds great but theres something I just don’t trust. plus he’s been very pushy about me putting down a deposit even though I told him I don’t have the money currently.Anyone shed any light on this company before I part with my hard earned cash?
cheers
I called called Hgv express and a few other similar companies myself before going with a reputable company and the bloke on the other end of the phone was trying to get me to part with my money,I asked if I could drive over to meat up and see their training centre which they told me they don’t work like that, they don’t have centres as such… also after digging in deeper I heard of several people being done up like a kipper, I ended up going with Stockport Hgv Which treated me great and have now got my class 2 licence and my CPC both with Stockport HGV and after a bit of experience I intend to do my class 1 with them…my advice to you is do what I done,I went over to Stockport HGV and met the people that were running it,seen wagons outside and learner drivers…don’t part with any money till you have checked out the company cause once parted with to a scam artist you will never see it again…best of luck !!
