what can people tell me about “Bob’s shop” just outside HEreford – there was/is a scrapyard there?

Bobs shop owner near Michael Church Escley on the edge of the black mountains, does a bit of everything, its run by Percy Powell as far as I know, used to run a couple of stock lorries, sold coal, did a bit of scrap.
Had health problems last I heard, but think he is ok now.

Was by Bobs shop in the week, now quite a tidy garage with MOT testing, still one or two relics, but nothing like it used to be.

One of Gamber Logistics from Pengethley near Ross on Wye on the A4111 near Eardisley.

Burgoynes of Lyonshall have just celebrated their 100 years in Haulage.

One of Mercer’s on the move.

One of A B E from Ledbury palletline trucks pictured at Llandrindod Wells.

Another of Herefords finest.

Some of Burgoynes marquee lorries, pictured in their yard at Lyonshall.

Another two.

You won’t find many tidier shunters than this one.

One of Burgoynes four wheeler curtainside Fodens, used on pallet collection.

There’s no doubt the vehicles bring back memories, but so does the lush green hedges and mountains.
I used to enjoy running up to Hereford on Saturday mornings, from the heads of the valley’s usually to the market or sarrounding farms.I either drove a T.K. Bedford or Leyland Terrier loaded with steel for Hereford Galvinisers, and returning with potatoes, hay or straw.
Most of the locals would be returning to base,Oakley’s Marathons + TM’s,Gammond’s Dodge 300’s green and cream but never clean,Lloyd’s of Ludlow,D+N Morgan,Bulmers own account fleet,Chukie Chicken, owner operators and farmers/hauliers.
Many South Wales steel boys returning south also,it was the late seventies,we thought life was tough then, but looking back they weren’t bad at all.The business was full of characters, most being more proffesional than they were ever credited for.

H.S WILLIAMS no longer running wagons they were bought out by ROSS ROADWAYS in the early eighties they ran the wagons in the blue and red liverey only untill a few years ago John and Clive still work for ROSS ROADWAYS but now all wagons painted red and green although the H S WILLIAMS name may still exist

Anybody remember Glass Glover Distribution in Ross? They had the Littlewoods contract,Multiple Fruit Supplies and IIRC they were in the old BRS yard, sharing it with a firm called Prossers (I think). Before they had this depot the two Scania 110 artics they ran trunked to Maltby, the parent depot, and used to park near or on a cafe past Symonds Yat,maybe called the Bungalow, going towards Monmouth.A day man would deliver to Littlewoods stores “on the key”. They eventually moved to Chepstow, maybe in the late 80s when more room was required,in the same yard as Hays Distribution, and Littlewoods had a textile warehouse there as well.
The original 70s livery was an orange colour which was changed to blue. The Prossers wagons were white,I’m sure. :unamused:
