I remember the Bulmers fleet very well, they ran 180 vehicles in the siixties, not just the big stuff,
they also ran Scammell Scarab artics around Hereford running mostly between plants and pub deliveries.

Can,t think of anyone called Steve Nash off the top of my head, know Roberts lorries from Whitchurch ross roadways, but don,t know any drivers.
Remembered another haulier, A G Griffiths & Sons Ltd from Hereford.
also Glyn Morris of Lea near Ross on Wye, used to come up to the quarries this way.
glyn morris tidy fleet of erfs blue and grey if i remember rightly
ag Griffiths where they tippers yellow and red in colour
mate of mine (deceased now) tony mobley drove for mercers of bodenham used to have b series erf 111 scannie now all volvo fleet
A G Griffiths fleet were green as far as I can remember, flatbed 8 wheelers on general haulage.
Glyn Morris were blue, he ran about half a dozen lorries, houses on his site now.
JOHN NORMAN’S RESTORED LORRIES
ERF CI5 3 WAY TIPPER
SEDDON 30-4-6LXB
nice to see the Seddon – I run the Flickr Seddon group - there’s never enough pictures or restored Seddons about.
Wish there was more pre Motor Panels cabbed ones
I bought my 6-wheeler tipper from a firm called NH Jones of Hereford. He had a few wagons, (couple of 6’s, couple of 8’s and a couple of artics). Blue cabs, white bodies mainly Leyland Daf’s.
Seemed to be moving plant and doing tipper work mainly. He was downsizing his fleet I think and that was about three years ago.
Nigel Jones still has a few tippers, he does site work around Hereford, has plant as well, as a few lorries, doesn,t keep his lorries long, currently running some Daf tippers, one in tarmac colours.
Have Sharples from Eardisley packed up?
They were still running a few of their more “mature” Fodens well into the eighties, I think.
Cheers
Mark
Hi Mark,
Sharples of Eardisley packed up a few months ago, they were running just two eight wheelers in tarmac colours, a Foden and a Hino. They had a fleet of over twenty in their heyday. The last two truck were new about two years ago.
One of their drivers Colin Evans son Matt runs a company called Techtruck(could be trucktech ) out of their premises, so there are still a lot of wagons in and out of their yard .
Mark,
I put a post on this forum Welsh border tipper operators, quite a bit of info on there, you might remember some of the operators.

Thanks for the info Dave. I never actually met the boss, only his fitter. I did the deal over the phone for the truck. I have to say the wagon was well looked after, by far the best I had seen. Its served me well so far and will have to carry on for a good long while yet as work is so slack.

Same this way with the work, slack due to the credit crunch etc, also this week the weather has put paid to most of the remaining work. Not so good for some of the blokes with new trucks with a load of finance. Lets hope the weather gets better also the builders and construction industry get back on track. Most of N H Jones work is hauling from the quarries this way back to Hereford, quite a easy run, not many hills, so the trucks are not having it as hard as going further into Wales.
Cheers Dave

Yeah, I count my blessings every day that I haven’t got the big payments to find. I’ve been lucky to get 1-2days per week since Xmas. I’m annoyed that the government seem to want to bail out every b’stard but not help the construction industry by building council houses and doing new roads etc. I’m sure it will come good again. Hope it picks up for you as well. Cheers.
Hi Dave,
Thanks for the info on Sharples.
I was suprised to see that they had only finished recently, expected them to have been long gone by now.
I wonder if any body has any pics of the eatrlier wagons or even the Alpha & Hino for that matter?
Cheers
Mark
