Fin,I usually type a load of stuff, then discover its all in capitals or something daft, other times I post something and then have to edit out the mistakes.
Cheers Dave.
I`ll try again Dave, mother lived in Eardisley area in her youth remember a vage story about one of her uncles being killed up near Rhydspence in the fog a load of sheet steel took the cab off when drivin for Sharples many many years ago
Hi Fin,
I have a load of Sharples pics back on the Welsh Border thread, I remember a Sharples driver in a bad smash by Whitney Toll Bridge, when the railway bridge was still there,I think it was a head on with a Oliver Hart coal bulker, possibly that was the one. There was a chap called Watkins from Pembridge killed driving for them,I think he was a brother to Bill and John Watkins from Pembridge who were also lorry drivers,John known as Hoppy drove for Morfa Transport on the steel.
Cheers Dave.

Dave the Renegade:
There was a very good transport cafe at Winforton until the 70’s,your folk must have lived right by it,if you were opposite the Sun Fin.
Cheers Dave.
Dave, what was the name of that cafe at Winforton again, you told me once I think.

Never knew a name for it Chris,it was just Winforton transport cafe as far as I know,it was a good place,I used to have a feed there in the afternoon, even though I carried sandwiches and only lived about 12 miles from there, fried everything for about 3shillings and ninepence including tea and bread and butter. I must have had worms, was just about 12 stone then.
Cheers DAVE.
At the risk of repeating myself,it was open on a saturday morning in the 70s and I went in once or twice on my way home to Sheffield from Swansea via the scenic route.

It closed soon after that, don’t know why, probably could see the transport getting less due to the moterway links, now there’s plenty of lorries back on that road.
Cheers Dave.

Hi ianto,
The Swordfish place at Winforton is built on what was the park of the Transport Cafe, before the Swordfish people had it Hergest washers had it,they are now based at Hergest Camp near Kington,I think Royal Oak Transport were probably from Hardwick near Hay On Wye where the Royal Oak pub was,but I could be wrong,I’ll ask Tony Lewis next time I speak to him.
Cheers Dave.
