Around 20 years ago, i was helping Tony get some of his vintage fleet home from a local show. I took a Senior Constructor first, then the Rotinoff. Don’t think there would have been much between them in age, but a huge difference when it came to comfort and drivability. More noise, rattles and vibrations in the Scammell. The Rotinoff was more like a big car. Smooth power steering, synchro gearbox and quieter. How ever i did take it to Gayden on a hot day, and if it wasn’t for the sliding doors, i would probably have melted. Vesty’s drivers in 40+ must have had the obligatory bucket of water and towel in the cab.

All in all, Colin, you could probably walk off with a few prizes for driving a number of rare and unusual lorries over the years. Not to mention the ERF NGC. Did you ever get to drive John Symons’s Kenworth too?
