Not sure, I’ll ask on the other side.

I think you are right, does the first picture show a jeep behind the tractor, and the 2nd one, the booster?

Didn’t have time to ask but I saw someone wanting to know, who was being advised by an experienced heavy driver/owner.

That forum is not so easy to find some things and maybe I’ll get the chance to ask the expert tomorrow.

Credit Rontonio for the pictures.

On the ball there David, I asked a mate of mine who lives in Canada, and he confirmed what you said. It’s all to reduce weight on the axles.

Interesting bit of kit eh? I wonder if Allelys has got more of those sort of jobs now, since ALE was acquired by Mammoet?

@franglais, same sort of job as in the videoclip, just more than half a century apart😉

I forget the correct name, but those multi piece front wheels are putting a lot through those 6 studs.

I haven’t seen it all but here is a longer version 90min about Allely’s S Wales job… Apparently it contains a Whoops! moment.

Apparently-! it’s a ‘dolly’ to convert the semi into a drawbar so the recovery/winch vehicle which is on the semi can tow the trailer offroad to recover broken down tanks, guns, wagons etc where the prime mover would have no chance of going.

I can see that the dolly would turn the semi into a full trailer.
I am not sure it would be much cop in the mud though? I guess it depends on what weight was on it?

I guess that trailer behind that crawler would just be classed as a plough :grinning:

Few years back moved a Conrad low loader with 2 axles tagged on the back, seemed a bit strange. Local move from western docks to eastern docks in Southampton

It is many years ago now, but when I was on for Lambert Brothers* I remember (or think I remember!) that it was one of your trailers I used for an internal move inside Fawley Refinery. A swan neck trailer with a very low bed of about 40ft. 4 axles.
Used it to move a piece about one or two hundred metres under some pipes.

Lambert’s also moved some large glass fibre tanks needing very low and long trailers and my memory(!) is that you were involved in that.

  • The company name still exists but has changed hands now. So no comment being made about what happens today.

Would of it been this King Trailer by chance, if my memory is right it was on 12inch wheels(Fork Lift tires) they did’nt like speeds.

I think so!
Yes very small wheels, and I was told slow always. 40mph empty sound right?

I think there was one or two spare wheels with it, but thankfully not needed.

Very similar to the one I had at Econofreight when I told the ‘hurry up’ copper escorting me that it says 40 mph on the tyre and I’m not going faster than that.
