sorry its turned off now ,only had it on to see what i wis spillings. any way what i will also ad is 1 to ME and 0 to VOSA.

Hi Flapper,

Blimey - sounds like you had a close call! :frowning:

I’m glad everything worked out for you.

Good luck with the health kick - it’s not easy.

Don’t feel too bad, though. A friend of mine who’d never smoked, rarely drank and was fanatical about keeping fit and eating properly, caught a virus and had a heart attack.

He had to have a heart and lung replacement…at 35 :open_mouth:

Look after yourself and congratulations on getting your licence back

Well done mate, mine happened just over 12 months ago, similar symptoms but on two separate days, but on the second day my arm was aching like {zb}, I was in France too just to complicate things :unamused: an ambulance ride from hell down from the Alps in an estate car type ambulance, toll boths taken at 60mph (free passage :grimacing: ) before resuming their their flatout cruise of 120mph :open_mouth:. within 45 minutes of arriving at the Grenoble Cardiac Clinic I too was the proud new owner of two stents, took me 4 months to get my HGV licence back though.
So people, like Flapper has said, any unusual chest, neck or limb pains, get them checked out, cause when that heart is being starved of blood you’ve got 4 hours to get it sorted before permanent damage starts being done, and just because you don’t smoke, are fit and eat a varied diet (like me  :stuck_out_tongue: ) dose’nt mean it won’t happen to you.

just because you don’t smoke, are fit and eat a varied diet (like me  :stuck_out_tongue: ) dose’nt mean it won’t happen to you.

But it’s probably less likely.

my symtoms were the same as flapper and joes, on the early hours of tuesday morning i woke up with a burning sensation in the middle of my chest, thought i had heart burn so had some rennies and went back to sleep, woke up and there wasnt any symptoms so thought yep it was heartburn n thought no more about it, for the next 3 nights it was the same, when i lay down the burning feeling in the middle of the chest would start, take rennies, sleep.

i got back too base on the friday night and went home, had a shower and went to bed, i woke again with this burning feeling but it was worse this time, called nhs24 and they said to go to the a&e dept which i did, they did a ecg scan on me which turned up nothing according to the doc that took it and said to me that he thought it was bad case of heartburn, gave me some tablets for heartburn and sent me home.

saterday night was the same but as i thought it was heartburn i didnt worry about it, then sunday evening it came with avengence, i was in agony with it and was coughing up little amounts blood, called the nhs24 helpline again who in turn sent out an ambulance to me, they took me to hospital in aberdeen where i was seen by 5 diffrent docs, had 8 samples of blood taken, had another 2 ecg scans taken, i got wheeled up to a ward at midnight with the doctors telling me they think it is either a chest infection or a blood clot on the lung or a ulcer of some sort.

i’m woken by a doctor at 4am to be told that one of the blood samples has told them i have had a heart attack, to say i was shocked would be an understatement, next thing i knew i’m swallowing tablets and been givin blood thinning injection and hooked up to a heart moniter, i’m also told it could be 2 days before i get down to cornary care dept as it full.

i get down to coranary care on the tuesday night, on the thursday i go for a heart scan (it is nearly the same scan as a your wife would get when she is pregnant and the checking the baby heart so they told me).

on the friday its angioplasty day (this is where they put the dye through you to find where the blockage is and how bad it is). i go in at 3pm and they decide to go in through my wrist, get the local anesteicic
and away they start ( i watched on the screen what they were doing inside me ), in 20 mins they had located the blockage in my cornary artery, cleared the blockage with a balloon (i felt it inflate and the relief when it deflated), then had a stent fitted in.

the consultant told me that givin the time it took me to get hospital care that he is very surprised that i was still living considering the cornary artery was blocked.

i was told that the main reason for my heart attack was smoking (i was on 40 a day), my weight and diet didnt help either (at time of heart attack i weighed 22 stone and had the usal eat on the move diet of greasey spoons and burgers) and i wasnt getting much exercise either.

this all happend in the last week of november 2009, i’m still off work, i’v lost a stone n a half in weight by changing my eating habits and exercising more, i’m still waiting for dvla to reply and tell me when they want me on the treadmill to get back to work.

i never thought a heart attack would happen to me let alone have one at the age of 37, the reason why i wrote this is probably the same reason as why joe and flapper wrote theirs, to help someone else, to raise that little bit of awareness to what some of the symptoms are. dont always take that burning senstion in the chest as heart burn because it might not be, it better to get it checked sooner rather than later no matter where you are in the country.

i would just like to thank the ambulance crew and the medical staff at aberdeen royal infarmary for the treatment i recieved without them i probably wouldnt be writing this just now

not exactly, there was a guy in same ward as me who had never smoked, never ate junk food, kept fit (he jogged 10 miles aday), he is his optimum weight for his bmi, he had a heart attack and needed 5 stents put in and might have to have a bypass as the stents may only be a temp solve to the problem

well i got my date for the treadmill last week and i was up for it on the 2nd week of march but got a phone call today from dr’s secatry telling me there had been a cancelation and would i like to have my treadmill test brought forward, of course i said yes thinking it be a week or so earlier so i got the shock of my life when she said next wedensday would be ok then, so i’m up for the punishment mill on wedensday morning, better to get it over n done with sooner rather than later

thats good to hear fella  just take it nice and easy ( its not a marathon) you will be wired for sound, dont be alarmed .the tread mill starts nice and slowly then gets gradually faster ,and starts to go up hill, its not a mountain.although if like me the last time you ran was back in school days ,then it might feel like it  what might help is some stretching exercises for the old legs and your plates of meat(feet).thats what my personal trainer says ,but shes only 22    .any way must go got to go to docs (cough)yep hgv runs out next month
