One of Ernie Moores from Caton nr Lancaster,

Tidy pic of my truck, just after it had been repainted, had it from new then it was fitted with the air kit then repainted!!!
Sorri bout the quality but most of pictures stuck into photo album.
Jeff and Tony ? Kiggins ran to France and Italy, ran a freight office with subbies as well as there own wagons.
Remember having to remove a head from Maggy Deutz and ■■■■ it up on the way back from Basel, what a heap of ■■■■ that was.
They transported stuff for Angus Firearmour and also lots of wallpaper if I recall correctly?
They where very nice people to deal with.

Thats all well and good offering the 311 for sale JR but you arn’t saying what engine/gearbox/axle you are gonna put back into it!! never mind about tyres!! Probably that Johnny Cash song “One piece at a time” would sum up the result if you slapped it back together!!!Dennis.

Yep you are correct JR, Malcolm bought G.E. Moore (Haulage)Ltd. out when Ernie passed away I remember at the time he told me it was more for “old times sake” as he had been good pals with Ernie for many years. Was David Moore at Bewicks when you were there ? Dennis.
A couple here I found on net (wagon pics David A Smiths site) both G E Moores.
Looks like the photo of the Guy could have been taken outside his yard in the village square.

A couple of cracking shots!! That Guy is probably the pinnical of the “Nether Kellet Dangle Axle Haulage co.” It would probably have started life as a 4 wheeler and then Ernie set about up-rating it to an 8!!! I wonder what sort of payload it could carry? Bewick.

And the Dodge appears to have an Albion double drive back-end and not the usual Ernie dangle axle! Bewick.

Gross weight on those eight leggers then was 24/26 ton, probably 24 on a short one like that Dennis,at a guess I’d say 15 ton 10cwt max payload.
Cheers Dave.

I think it was 24 ton Dave going by the Reg. No. Don’t know what engine the Guy would have in but maybe Truckfing will be able to tell us! Dennis.

I think the standard engine in the lightweight 6 &8 wheeler Guy’s was the AEC 7.7 and in the 4 wheelers the Leyland 350/375 engine was fitted and if you were feeling flush you could get a Gardner 6LW or a 150 even but I think these 2 engines were only fitted into the Invincibles 8s & Tractor units! Cheers Dennis.
Those pictures were both taken before I started work at Moores and the wagons had both gone by then but I think the Dodges had Perkins 6:354 and the eight wheel Guys Gardners. My dad drove a Guy Warrior eight legger at Pelters and that had a 6LW in it. There was a Guy 6 wheeler still at Moores when I started and that had a Leyland 400 in it. All Pelters other Guys and a solitary eight wheel Dodge had the AEC engine. On a different note I saw two wagons from the Lancaster area today although not technically a hauliers. The owner Yappie was polishing yet another Scania despite his own two being parked alongside. What an asset this man must be to an employer.

Where did we go wrong at Bewick Transport then when JR worked for us ? Bewick.

Ernie Moore’s Guy! I’ll have to activate plan “B” then David and ask Eric Atkinson if he knows what engine was in the Guy! Dennis.

It was a bit tongue in cheek Dennis but when I was talking to him I promised to put his wagons on here somewhere and this seemed a good opportunity. He would not stand in front of them when I took it though. Eric would have been working at Moores when I photographed the Guy and the Dodge but I was still at school and only took pictures at the weekend. He was a great storyteller and had some rum tales of his days on the road at Fells.

He’s not stupid David!! Why should you want him on the photo and damage your expensive lens! not to mention setting all the various authourity’s off looking for him again!!! Eric was at Bewick Transport for the last 12/13 years of his carrer in road transport up until he retired in the mid 90’s.He was one of the finest drivers we had ever employed at Bewicks without a doubt!!Dennis.
Taken today 20/6/10 at Scorton vintage fayre.
I have been informed by a member of the Bibby family that the Seddon was purchased by them in 1966 for the sum of £100 (ex Spillers) and was working until 1980.
Loads more put on the photo forum and my site.
