As it was Dogthehunter’s post that started the most discussion involving HATOs i believe,i will say here what i said to him, more or less, in a pm.That is whilst i do not agree with taking pics whilst driving,it must have been safe at the time because he didnt crash,or cause a crash.I am not a police officer and no longer want to be one so i lloked and read and thought ‘nice pics’.
If a post upsets someone that much, join the police and take action,if thats what you want to do.
Yes,some comments on this site have upset me as im sure some of my comments have upset people. But its not personal and we can be adult, agree to disagree, and move on.
I voted not to ban HATOs ( i know im biased ) but i would also vote not to ban lorry drivers from national traffic site.
Forums should raise debates and differing points of view.
dieseldave:
Given the ‘black and white’ nature of the poll choices on offer, I voted “no,” simply because there are good and bad in any group of people chosen on the basis of their profession/gender/skin colour/ marital status etc etc.IMHO it would be unwise to ban a group of people, where the basis for the ban is their profession.
IMHO, certain HATOs and certain truck drivers appear to have broken this site’s rules on personal attacks.
For that reason, any disciplinary sanctions, including possible bans, ought to be entirely within the published site rules and directed towards any individual who broke those rules regardless of their profession.
IMHO, the use of anything other than a fair procedure and can only lead to damage being caused to this site’s reputation, which, if left untreated, might be totally counter-productive for all concerned.Since we’re ALL on a learning curve, and with hindsight, perhaps we can all learn something from this episode.
I have voted no. The above comments by Dave are very sensible and I would agree with his views on this matter.
This forum is open for all to see, considering what has happend recently, the general public may take a dim view of this constant bickering and in some cases abuse between members. We live in a democratic society and everyone should have a right ot debate and opinion, no matter what their views.
Whether we agree or disagree is part of that proccess. Stimulating debate should be encouraged, as that is how change come about.
why has it been moved i dont want a blanket ban or the said two who have neglected to post yet but putting it in the feedback forum to hide the issue■■?
i put this thread on to get a sensible debate going and strangely it seems to have worked
To make a suggestion and a valid one…
If diarys are going to be taken out of context (and reporting people to whoever )by venonmous little oiks in funny coloured Hi-Viz jackets ■■■■■■■■ about standing on the hard shoulder then perhaps a LOCKED
area of the forum for the diaries to be posted in.(basically if you don’t have access you can’t see it so know nothing of it’s existence)
I use other forums that have such areas and access is only granted to those who aren’t just reading to cause trouble etc.
For starters give everyone access except the obvious 2 and see how it goes.
Anyone starts arguments on a diary thread over pics etc then access is taken away, simple as that.
Might not be the way TN wants to operate the forum but between the constant moaning threads the diaries make a humourous change.Only spoiled by certain spastics that can’t keep there big mouths shut and probably wouldn’t open them on a face to face basis.
i have suggested there should be a diary forum and also said i would moderate it and also go back through all the old threads and dig out the diarys and put them in the new forum, the new forum should only be open to members.
the " hato’s " shouldn be banned as they add a vital piece to the forums, i mean we have rog the unemployable driving instructor and diesaldave for the adr so why shoudnt there be a hato amongst us, they can give us advice and instruction for various topics. t/w has marc ( euro truck spotter ) the motorway cycle cop and he has an active part in their website.
there has been a lot of problems with the 2 “judge dreads” one is now gone and hopefully the other will get down of his high horse otherwise he will be off as well.
now the hato we have left is " the highway man " he seems a good sort and is taking the banter well which is what we like and will fit right in. i say give him a chance like we do every new memberish and try and work with him and use his experiance.
Thanks for your kind words, believe it or not there are about a dozen of us posting quite regularly on here, it’s just that they’re not as vocal as the “ahem” rebel rousers!! I will try and keep the peace but as you’ve already seen in other threads some of us HATO’s are getting fed up with the fire and brimstone preaching also!
i voted yes,
what the ■■■■ are hato’s■■?
Borderer:
i voted yes,
what the [zb] are hato’s■■?
Why did you vote yes then if you don’t know what they are? BTW they are Highways Agency Traffic Officers
I voted a genuine no.
i dont know what members think of me? i know one thing is certain i am no preacher! i feel i have brought a valuble contrabution to thisforum including a single posting that received over 260 Replies over 5000 views and made it into the road transport news.
I come from a truck driving family and before i became a hato drove hgvs for a living i think its pathetic that because of the actions and comments of two d!ckheads BOB PARR and BIG JASE it has come to this. Individual action i needed!!
If it is decided that we are banned then i think it will be a very sad day for the trucknet forum.

This site has been around for quite some time, with a pretty good reputation I believe. It didn’t get there by banning groups of people.

Hi Lighting mcqueen, I think you’re alright mate.
(As are the vast majority of the members of this site. )
As I said in my first post above, IMHO naughty posters ought to be dealt with by fair use of the published disciplinary system. I think it’s completely irrelevant whether they are HATOs or truck drivers, members should read the site rules cos they’re bound by them whether they like it or not.
i will add lighting mcqueen to the list of decent hatos even though we have had our differences but i have achieved what i wanted a sensible debate with no out of order name calling i think the poll got everyone thinking a bit more rational
No.
Anyone who posts incriminating pictures and admissions on a public forum can hardly have cause for complaint if they get skewered by the law, by whatever means.
As Highwayman says ‘there are dozens of us here’ , and no doubt loads of closet (or otherwise) VOSAs, traffic officers, lawyers, and, as some have found out to their discomfort, employers. How the hell would you ban them all or just one section? Anyone can register and call themselves a lorry driver in their profile and then sit and wait to pounce on the unwary few.
In any case, a seperate point of view of our own profession is always useful, as TW has found, as Alex says, with ETS and Grasshopper.
I have let this post run for a couple of days without adding a reply as I think it was needed to clear the air a little.
Firstly let me make one thing very clear, We have never and will not ban a section of society simply because of their employment. Bans/Suspensions are imposed on individuals because of their actions on the forums or connected to the forum use.
Are HATO’s relevant to a drivers forum? I believe they are, they share the working enviroment, interact with drivers and may have insights to parts of the drivers job and working practices that we dont. (I also believe its a two way street and HATO’s can also learn from you all).
I also will not hesitate try to identify any user who uses this forum to conduct spiteful and malicious campaigns against any individual or group and take whatever action I feel needed to force them to cease.
Members whose employers have stated they do not wish their employees to post about their companies/departments business on public forums should bear that in mind when making any post. Especially if it part of their contract of employment.
To sum up HATO’s as a group will not be stopped from using this forum, individuals wether HATO or not that cannot post within our guidelines or are deliberatly disruptive, offensive will be subject to the sanctions system that all agreed to when registering to use the website.

So all the corporate waffle aside, are you going to be banning Big Jase along with Bob Parr or not ?
A lot of very sensible posts on this thread so far. I also voted no, simply because, as has been said many times, the problem is not with HATO’s, just a certain pair of individuals.
If I can just make a comment to all those who have said that the moderators should have jumped in sooner.
I have been on here for about 4 years now and have seen the arguments go through cycles. The current one is the “moderators should have jumped in sooner” The poor mods are in a bit of a no win situation because if the do jump in (as has in the past) the members complain that “trucknet is to overmoderated”
I’m sure several of us can remember when other forums were calling this place “trucknanny”
No doubt the moderation will be tightned up over this event and in 12 - 18 months the complaints will start about the “heavy handed moderating” will start again.
It is a very difficult position for the mods
