Harris&Miners

I can’t remember the last time I had to do that can you David.

Just about Cliff, just about!
It was one afternoon in Roscoff waiting for the boat. The man from Mesguin’s office asked me if I could show some of his drivers how to rope and sheet those loads of cauliflowers that they used to send over on Rowes flat trailers. These lads were very keen to watch my demonstrations but were less keen to actually do anything.
Long story short I ended up doing them all myself. Still he did pay me.
But they were nowhere as neat as that one of Bewicks.

David

I can remember when I was doing a lot think it was because I was working for chard and cliff can’t remember because he was working for Axminster too many fridges and not enough flats ha ha . David you must of done a fair bit on thomsons but that was square rice pudding loads wasn’t it ■■ . Still say they were the good days , sorry to nick a bit of your thread bewick but Harris & Miners did part loads to Scotland for chard transport when I was driving so it fits a little bit . Dennis

Norm are you telling me that everyone of Brian’s motors and trailers were stripped down EVERY year and re-painted prior to the annual MOT ? Sounds a bit extreme to me ! Ch3eers Dennis.

Youngsters think I am off my rocker when I tell them that some companies I worked for in the 70’s used to paint the wheels, bumpers & under run bars for the MOT,
I have always said a clean tidy motor pulling up at the test station has already passed 80% of the test.

Those early tri-axle trailers only used 1000x20 tyres and your right they weren’t a success but when they came out in 1983 they used the 385 mini super single and they were OK, well they were for us Norm ! But having blamed the early tri axles on the tyres my first artic was a 26 ton gvw Mastiff coupled to a Primrose single wheeled tandem which was shod on 1100x22:5 Mich X and we never had a minutes problem and we used to put 18 ton loads on it ! But I suppose if we’d used other manufactures tyres no doubt we would have had some lumber ! Cheers Dennis.
