I have posted plenty of my own FIRST hand information about the company, feel free to ignore all my negative information about that company, because anyone who slags them off is a failure.

We’ve a bloke just started at my place from H&R and he reckons it’s a load of crap on there, lots of hanging around and no miles
Before you go to the interview -No criminal record & no D/D’s.

maybe worth using as a stepping stone then to get out there■■?

There’s a guy working with me, lost E5 grand in three months after starting with H&R and never even got his own truck! There are also a few others who are with us and all have same complaints about H&R, BUT at least one went back to them!
Main complaints… no layover pay whilst forced to wait between loads, sit all day with promise of load, then forced to drive all night when you eventually get one. Short runs, with long unpaid waits between them.

Guess if I do go for interview I’ll have a few questions for them and watch the reactions lol. How easy is it to switch firms out there IF i do take a job and not get on with the way they work etc

If you go out with them you may do ok, some do, and stay there years. My experience is common (coming home), but if you can get someone else to give you an LMO it is easy to change jobs, just don’t pack in at H&R before you get the new lmo, unless of course you have sold your house and have loads of brass to help you along.
Don’t ask too many questions and don’t mention forums at the interview, or you will be turned down!
thanks for all the advice mick

thanks for all the advice mick
You’re welcome.
P.S. There’s a current (happy) H&R driver making some good, interesting posts on the other trucking forum.

My first company here was small, about 12 trucks and 29c a mile but they paid waiting time and all detantion time, also $30.00 a day if you hit 600 miles. St Annes Transport are probably the fairest small company in the US. They also paid seperately for every drop and pick up, and for entering NYC boroughs.
They don’t actually seem any different to any other firm, especially larger firms. They are ■■■■ about the satellite messages and paperwork, and they don’t actually admit they made mistakes but they just stop telling you you are wrong instead.
The work is easy, the miles are pretty good where I am concerned, but I have a dedicated run so it is probably different. On my working weeks I get 4000 miles and can run it as I choose. I always know it will be evening when I load so I run the whole trip to fit that schedule, then I can head back west through the night.
Yes, the run south is tight for time, and the run back into Toronto usually involves some hassling of dispatch to make sure they find me a load home because they won’t dispatch on a loaded vehicle, meaning that you have to be empty before you get your next load.
Bottom line, if you have worked for an Irish firm on euro work, or if you have done Iberian work, then you have probably worked for worse and been messed around more. If you run it as they want it run, and make sure you keep up on the messages and such, then you probably will be fine with them.
Yes, I do work for a broker so it is a little different, but we slip seat so we have to get rolling to get back on time. As for pay, well I earn more on this, doing a week on and a week off, then I did on city work.

A completely different scenario to the Brits who are waiting for PR and are with H&R out of Lethbridge Alberta.
You know, that may well be so. I can only speak as I find. However, I got back to Winnipeg on Friday and was speaking to a brit that has been with them, based in Lethbridge, for 4 years and he is more than happy. He says the same as me, that they are a typical large firm.
I have spent a long time hearing all the negative stuff and now I am amongst the wolf pack myself. They are not so different from BFS, in fact they are very similar in their attitude.
Now there is something else that they could do for potential immigrants, although the number that have quit after a couple of months may prevent it. If the LMO is applied for on a 2 year term then the work permit should be for 2 years. Of course, you would have to work there long enough to get nominated and your PR, and not all are able to.
I may not stay with them long, or I might. The 1 week on/1 week off rota is pretty good, and it keeps my earnings at a level where, by virtue of being widowed, I am able to get free of most taxes. But the being away is not what I really wanted to carry on with. So far, that is the only reason I would go elsewhere.
