H & R Transport Diary

taffytrucker:
I can’t gets used to that dam crash box made some great tunes on the way down but hell of a lot smoother now lol glad to get back in2 an auto lol gotta save up pat for my CB yet seen a couple a like so wait till got a payday behind me then take from there got as far as Amarillo now few hrs left in me so close to FT Worth tonight

Probably smoother due to less cogs & teeth Taff, they’ll be in the bottom of the box now

I know exactly how Taffy feel with the crash boxes, it only took me about 5 years to get used to them
It wasn’t untill I got the super 10 box on my firts Foodliner truck that I actually figured it out. Now I have this Cascadia and a sticker on the dash say’s ‘SELF ADJUSTING CLUTCH, USE THE CLUTCH FOR EVERY CHANGE OF GEAR’ … yeah right, you think that after years of trying to get it right I aint taking a step backward.

Pat Hasler:
I don’t know how you cn do that Mick
I mean … If ever I am anywhere and hear or see a fellow brit I make a point of talking to him or her. Maybe it’s because there are a lot more of you guys up there in Canuckland than down here. If I meet another Brit and we are going the same way I couldn’t resist running with them and having a chinwag on the CB.
BTW I wasn’t refering to people in particular in my post just the odd ones that want so much to move over here but don’t make the grade, or who couldn’t hack it, moved back and now wish they hadn’t, those are usually the once who find fault with the others who make a go of it over this side of the ocean.

He seemed stressed out Pat, and we were going up for a shower so didn’t want to hang about, by the way, after our shower his truck was STILL on the pump, so you wouldn’t have been too pleased to chat to him, except maybe to bollock him for not pulling forward after fueling!

I would imagine he was very ‘Stressed out’
His first solo run through a completely strange country, I know how I was for my first week, month and more and I still get stressed out when I get sent somewhere I have never been before
Bless him

Strangely enough my first run for that same company involved taking a rental truck south to exchange for a company unit which had been dumped down there after breaking down, and the occupants had brought a rental back north before leaving the company.
I hope Taffy has more luck than us, the exchange was disgusting (the couple had had 2 dogs with them) we had flea bites before we got back to Canada.
I’m sure he’ll cope well, he’s only a young 'un.

I hope he’s ok :open_mouth:
he has been very quiet since sunday and isn’t even on Facebook … are you ok Taffy

Am back MOFO’s lol thanks for the concern guys am pretty good thanks.

The GPS is going out the window next time I pass Shelby dam thing was trying to take me via FT Worth and Dallas to get to San Antonio load of crp. The run itself was nice and easy apart from a jumped up security gaurd trying to chew me a new are for not pulling up outside and calling in on CH5 he still not get it when told him no radio lol. I been looking at the cobra ones for about $130 but hey pat if you’re passing mate  lol
Ryder being Ryder wouldn’t take the unit back in Lubbock soooooo drop trailer there bobtail upto Amarillo company taxi back to Lubbock lol. All I can say is wow US difference to roadworthy is different to mine the cab is in a bad state but roadworthy. Got battered by the storm Monday night just by Snyder was down to bout 40 mph. Looks like under advise they are running me back empty so got back far as Denver today bout 16 hour drive or so left to get back. Have averaged about 600 miles a day (not counting handing unit back yesterday). So in 7 days I will have done about 70 hrs work and 3850 miles not bad for first week on the road.

To say I was stressed at Shelby is an understatement and I think I remember seeing you there now mick but didn’t take much notice and I wasn’t parked on the pump I was still fueling lmaooo :stuck_out_tongue:

Have seen some great sights on this trip that money just can’t buy out of this world. The office staff on this trip have been great in handling sorting out the taxi etc and small problem with the fuel card lol. Where I not had the MACRO coz in hire truck asked me to phone in twice a day just to make sure everything is going fine, most places I have worked in the past just tell you to crack on

If you wanna add me on facebook its evo859@hotmail.co.uk

Taffy … don’t waste so much hard earned cash on some flash rip of mate, a $45.00 radio with a good twig is all you need, if it’s set up ok you will have just as much range and clarity as any of the idiots who pay hundreds for the same service.
Glad to see you are ok mate.

nice thread this, enjoying following taffys progress, and good to see so many who are already there helping out

Yes it is a good thread, best of luck to Taffy he seems to be making a go of the opportunity. Can’t understand muppets like MF who stand behind him in a queue but don’t introduce themselves, then take the urine out of a newbie for crunching a few gears :unamused:
Each to their own I suppose, another case of cab fever, whilst the sensible ones are laying by their pools.

I don’t think refering to very experience drivers like Mick as a ‘Muppet’ is a good thing to do, some people see different ways of helping, Mick thought that intruding would put his in more stress because he would think he had made a fool of himself. In this situation if I were new at the life here I would take any help and advice a man like Mck could offer. If it were me I would have interviened because thats the sort of guy I am, Mick took a different aproach and in no way did he do anything wrong.

Thanks for the support guys. Tbh if mick had said anything it wouldn’t have registered till a lot later I just wanted my fuel and get back on the road lol next time though a bag of sugar for the fuel tank will come in handy

Off now till Sunday morning gotta be somewhere in Winconson between 7 - 12 tues morning and its a good 1600 miles away so foot to the floor in the meantime a few birthday beers are in order

Have fun! Wisconsin is a regular of mine and on the whole an excellent state to drive in, with the exception of Milwaukee. If you ever go there be very careful and consult your Rand McNally map for low bridges. Milwaukee has more low bridges than the rest of the state put together. I was expecting to be going there again this week but have two drops in Indiana for Monday morning instead.

Yes I took the urine out of someone for crunching gears, but he isn’t a newbie, he’s been driving years and has heard it all before I’m sure, I also ripped the urine out of myself on facebook for the exact same thing now that I’m back on a ‘crash box’!

I didn’t intervene because he was stressed, but handling it. Maybe you would have offered some advice had you been there, I doubt it as you usually just criticise on here, and you must be really peed off, along with your other muckers that I am doing ok with a better (in my opinion) company over here now.

Not sure what the pool reference is supposed to mean, perhaps you could explain.

Thanks Pat, but more a case of him thinking I might be trying to make him look a fool, and acting like I could sort out his business for him. I’m sure when I meet him we can have a nice beer.

You were Taffy at one time remember, couldn’t hack and ■■■■■■ off back to Blighty, whereby you started your crusade to stop Hit and Run recruiting lambs to the slaughter from Britain, didn’t we all hear about that episode for freakin years etc.
I would have taken time out to chat with the bloke, always do when I see someone in difficulty, costs me nothing but a few minutes of my life.
Pool reference meaning when days off come around those of us with a home life relax by the pool rather than a truckstop, doh doh :unamused: :unamused:

Its cool mick don’t worry man  one thing that everyonme must remember is that no matter how long you have been driving in europe when you come over here you are a rookie again and gotta start from the bottom and work your way up the ladder

May have rattled on for years, but you still didn’t get it did you? I cleared off because I was sitting around upaid constantly (no problem with doing the work when it was there). I only came on the forums to WARN family men… not singles. No crusade, always facts.

If you like helping people, do it here.

To be honest Mick, I read much of what you used to write a few years back and recognised pretty much everything you said as it was similar to my own experiences with reefer work in NB and that of my friends at other similar companies so could never understand why people shouted you down for telling the truth, especially if it’d help others making a huge mistake. I’ve witnessed many familes come to Canada and end up going back because they couldn’t make it pay with all the sitting around and then having to run bent as hell to make up for it, which in the end isn’t a better life. I think its important that forums like this where many people come to look for advice about moving to Canada show both sides of the coin and not just the rosey diaries with pictures of flash trucks and nice scenery.

I’m now doing dry van work and I’m 100% happier in my life here in Canada but when I was working on my PNP/PR doing reefers, pretty much everything you said rang true of my own experiences too.

I am guilty of the same thing, but with Big Freight and not H&R, my own experience was dreadful, so I shouted it from the rooftops, for the same reasons as Mick did about H&R :open_mouth:

I only had my experiences there to judge the company, so that’s what I did, there are many more employees of the companies concerned on the forums, they have just as much right to put their views forward :bulb:

Some have said they wouldn’t because the Mick’s and I of the forums would disagree and argue their points, well hell yeah we would, their posts saying that they were good companies would be disagreeing and arguing our points, the fact that there was more bad publicity than good says a lot :bulb:

Mick in particular did stress the point a little, but it was his life that was affected by it all, it’s very easy not to care about something that affects somebody else :open_mouth:
