H & R Transport Diary

newmercman:
I am guilty of the same thing, but with Big Freight and not H&R, my own experience was dreadful, so I shouted it from the rooftops, for the same reasons as Mick did about H&R :open_mouth:

I only had my experiences there to judge the company, so that’s what I did, there are many more employees of the companies concerned on the forums, they have just as much right to put their views forward :bulb:

Some have said they wouldn’t because the Mick’s and I of the forums would disagree and argue their points, well hell yeah we would, their posts saying that they were good companies would be disagreeing and arguing our points, the fact that there was more bad publicity than good says a lot :bulb:

Mick in particular did stress the point a little, but it was his life that was affected by it all, it’s very easy not to care about something that affects somebody else :open_mouth:

It didn’t affect me and the missus too much (we are comfortably off), it was only how I watched families go down the pan that peed me off. As you say, there are other views, and Taffy is giving his, so we should leave him to do his diary without me high jacking his thread to argue with others who want to slag me off personally.

Too true Mick

I look forward to Taffy’s next installment…

Its as I said everyone will find it different. I know things will go wrong at some or other but that’s the same with 99% of haulage companies  Been a good drive down so far bit of a shakey start. Went in at 06:30 sunday morning to find out the trailer was in High Rive coz unable to get it to the yard for me. O well that’s 3 1/2 hour drive wasted lol so off down through Sweetgrass because of the meat inspection made it is far as Malta MT last night punched through to Beach ND for fuel and a bite to eat in Fargo tonight about 1K kms under my belt today so not a bad drive today 9 1/2 hour drive to drop off tomorrow

To Waterloo I’ll bet?

Nope down to Butler WI. Was a straight trailer change so happy with that parked for the night at Richfield or some place like that nice lil stop clean showers n good food. Gotta load later tonight frozen pizza for Calgary that’s a nice run up and get to do my 1st 13 hour drive lol that gonna be a monster gotta go through North Port if that’s where I think it is then its just up the I29 from Fargo

North Portal is west of Fargo on I-94, you head for Jamestown then go North West from there, been a while since I went that way, but it’s easy enough, if you see a Canadian north of Jamestown, follow him

Glad to see you’re having fun, decent miles too :sunglasses:

It usually takes Me 5 hours from Fargo to North Portal up the 52 Taff ,

The fuel situation can be quite frustrating. In my current job we just fill wherever we want but at previous companies we’d get a fuel message on the satellite a mile long on an almost daily basis with all the bloody prices on and such like for every state we operated in.

I can understand fuel management, there’s a lot of money to be saved by doing it, PITA for the driver though

Where are you switching trailers

Loves is the worst truckstop group on the planet :smiling_imp:
I have arguments at every visit.

Pat, the Loves in Fargo is new, got a Subway and McDs in it, parking is a bit tight in one part, but nowhere near as bad as a Pilot in that respect

I think pats got used to the yankey backing up there loads of room here lol
Just checked and its fine to load trailer then do change over in USA so no worries there just gotta wait 8 hrs for it to get here now lol

I don’t get that, if you load in the USA and change over for another delivery in the USA you are interstating :open_mouth:

You can switch trailers as long as both trailers are going to the same country. So you could meet a fellow driver and swap deliveries, but the final destinations have to be in the same country, that’s how I understand the rules, maybe I’m wrong

Thats how I understand it too. Though its usually blatentely ignored by most companies. One well known reefer company here in NB used to regularly load bananas in the Philadelphia area, go to a warehouse near Boston, have them unloaded for ripening, reload different bananas that had been unloaded there days earlier and then proceed to Canada. They used to get very cagey when asked about interstating and before long the drivers were not allowed into the warehouse to witness unloading/loading…cant think why!..

I don’t know then boys I’m a rookie to it all over here I rely on office to guide me right

I’ve often wondered about this, I know one of ours went down & repowered a trailer last week, it makes You wonder if it was legal why any of us would get north of Fargo though does’nt it?

Ours is not to reason why ours is but to do and die lol

You can do all the trailer changes you want in the US as a “Canadian driver” as long as the origin or destination of the load is in Canada. So in Taffy’s case he had a load of beef from Canada to the US and swapped trailers with a driver who had load from Little chute, WI to Calgary so both loads are cross border. Its only interstating when your load originates in the US and is then delivered in the US.
Its all about the load not the power or driver.

First time I ever stopped at a Loves was the one between Orlando and Tampa and I was quite impressed with that one I have to admit. The Loves at Bordentown Nj is a f***ing joke to say the least, out of the last 4 showers 3 of them were cold. It’s very rare I eat that Wendy’s rubbish but the one time there that I did they didn’t take the loyalty card so what is the point of that

Not always a good idea, they need loads moving and don’t mind if you get caught breaking laws, they just say they knew nothing.
