Are there any other companys hiring besides H&R ■■?Everyone seems to go to them

Yes lots do your homework & find them, I was talking to an H&R employee the other day He told Me they have brought in excess of 2000 recruits so far & have retained 500, if this is true its a shocking statistic really.

someone must be making alot of money ■■ sounds like a big red rip off to me …but good luck and best wishes to all there making a go of it …

I can’t comment on money nor nothing like that & I too hope/wish the folks that make the trip do ok with them, if they don’t they may well move on to something else here anyway…

…and you know diddly squat my friend, couldn’t even find a recent recruit to hit and run when it was right in front of your eyes.
2000 recruits is exaggerated, and I do believe they are recruited via an agency/immigration consultant(correct me Taff if that’s wrong),but how many drivers are still with their original employer after gaining PR ? My first company had a driver turnover of 112% in my last and second year with them, and they weren’t a bad company by comparison to some out here.

Sorry if i have offended…just looking at the facts on internet driver turn over is huge at H&R, I was considering going with them (interview sept) they seem to paint a golden picture…as a company they should foot the bill for re-trainging +accomadation…i would pay my own flight over…at the end of the day they need the drivers… :unamused:

taffytrucker:
It seems bad weather and luck follow you pat so let’s hope you’re no that way next week lol we had a truck n trailer blown over down there so I gotta take the hire unit down with a load on the reefer deliver change into the now repaired unit and that should be my unit full time then we do a lot from that way back upto Toronto so a nice 2 week trip for me back to Lethbridge along highway 3 through Onterio. The guys who come along just after me are plodding along nicely. One passed driving test today waiting for phone call for mentor trip, 2 of the other boys have got tests this week and the other 1 is irish so let’s not go there lol. Not expecting anymore new guys out just yet as the next round of interviews start soon

this taff’s lost and he aint even left the yard yet!!!

I’m not lost just not in the right place atm lol

VRV Global sort the paperwork side of things out for the guys coming over and they also sort out the paperwork for the PR. As for driver turnover don’t forget a lot of guys come over and find out its not for them and end up going home and yes a lot use them till they get their PR then move on elsewhere. The pay is about right from what I can find out plus lay over pay on top but you show me how many big firms don’t have a large turn over of staff■■?

Make a mental note to yourself Taffy,6 months from the day you started at H&R to begin making noises regarding your nomination, don’t wait for them. It’s not in their interest to have you landed and free and they’ll be dragging their heels.
Are you running solo yet ?

Off running solo tonight upto Calgary ready for the morning. Pick up whitehorse for Housten TX nice long one to start off with just gotta get some shopping done then am good to go. So far everyone here has been great even gave me option of running up in the morning but going tonight coz then ill have a good 11 hour drive to start heading south.

Nice on Taffy, You enjoy it & take it all in, safe travels…

Highway 3 in Ontario won’t get you far, it runs from Fort Erie to Windsor, you’re a long way off from Lethbridge from there, about 3 days

Watch what you take over the border, The Americans are a little touchy about that, I recently had a tin of sardines inspected :open_mouth: Yes really  Evidently there’s some tinned fish they don’t like, they also recently added uncooked rice toi the list of banned substances :open_mouth: Also no fresh meat, fish, fruit or veg is allowed and they have a real hard on for citrus and apples, I’ve heard stories of $100 per apple fines :open_mouth:

It’s all cheaper south of the border anyway, so save a few $s and get into walmart or Target

And have a nice safe trip

Ahhhh ok just a route one of the boys said he came back through as most of the time end.up going back to Edmanton or Calgary so am not to sure but latest word I heard was load straigh back to Lethbridge but guess we will wait n see

When you get yourself settled base yourself in Calgary, yo will have a  a better choice of work and you won’t have to live in the Hutterite village of lethbridge.

All companies paint a rosy picture to get new recruits, it’s a well know fact, they all promise the earth to get drivers, it’s the same south of the border too. If they don’t make promises they can’t keep they wouldn’t get any applicants.
Don’t let a few small minded and jealous guy’s who either didn’t make the grade or wish they were in your shoes put you down Taffy.

Your there Taff wether you stay at h&r or move on give it your best shot. From what you have posted here you seem a guy who will roll with the punches and give it your best shot so whatever happens best of luck.

Hey Taffytrucker, were you in the Pilot at Shelby the other day in a white Ryder trying to explain about a ‘hire unit’ rather than a ‘rental tractor’?
Good luck with the job mate, but please keep it honest on here as you go along with the company, I for one was shocked to hear that they now actually pay layover!

BTW Pat Hasler, not everyone who leaves a company is small minded, didn’t make the grade, or is jealous, and many return to Canada and do well! There always seems to be a pre-occupation with slagging off drivers before companies!

Ha did the welsh rugby top give it away mick lol yea they told me the wrong fleet number for the unit so kinda messed it all up for me. Just down the other side of Denver now but the sat nav took me the wrong route and down the US 191 yesterday afternoon was hoping to be bit further south by now but had a cracking run down today and should be at the drop off on time.

Had some acciedents just as got going in Colorado but nowt to major behind by bout 15 mins where they just push it all to side of the road wanna be just north of dallas by time I park up tomorrow night

I normally do all my food shopping at Walmarts in the US and if I have to re-enter the US with some of the food still in the truck I just tell them I do have whatever items they ask about, that it was purchased in the US and I have the receipt to prove it and that always satisfies them. Normally I dont even get asked though. It is quite annoying though, especially in previous jobs where I could cross the border each way 2 or 3 times a week etc.

No mate, I thought you had an english accent, so couldn’t understand the top you were wearing. We were standing behind you and fueled beside you with the step deck and big reels on board, we also heard you changing gear coming out the scale on the 93 LOL. We are on the way to Texas as well, but will run out of hours before we get there as we turned and burned after coming up from South Carolina to Claresholm and only have 12 hrs left now, so should get to Gillette on Wednesday AM. Luckily, our loads don’t have sell by dates.
Drive safe.

I don’t know how you cn do that Mick
I mean … If ever I am anywhere and hear or see a fellow brit I make a point of talking to him or her. Maybe it’s because there are a lot more of you guys up there in Canuckland than down here. If I meet another Brit and we are going the same way I couldn’t resist running with them and having a chinwag on the CB.
BTW I wasn’t refering to people in particular in my post just the odd ones that want so much to move over here but don’t make the grade, or who couldn’t hack it, moved back and now wish they hadn’t, those are usually the once who find fault with the others who make a go of it over this side of the ocean.

I can’t gets used to that dam crash box made some great tunes on the way down but hell of a lot smoother now lol glad to get back in2 an auto lol gotta save up pat for my CB yet seen a couple a like so wait till got a payday behind me then take from there got as far as Amarillo now few hrs left in me so close to FT Worth tonight

You don’t need a big expensive CB Taffy, so don’t let people tell you otherwise. A CB radio is only as good as the antenea and coax it’s hooked to, you can by a $35.00 radio hooked to a good twig and you will get out anywhere mate, I have NEVER paid a cent for any CB radio in my life, my first I found in a dustbin in Northampton and every other was handed to me.
