They still do mate, I used to see them quite a lot delivering to Gist at Widnes.
Seem to be doing a lot out of the former TDG depot at Lancaster for the Northern Tissue Group, mainly double deck curtain siders and MAN units
Well its seems its going into Administration.
Saw a rumor on FB we’d/thursday
Yeh was reading last night.
Sure someone on here referred to them as a skid mark on the haulage industy something like that.
So always laughed when saw one since.
No idea what they were like.
I used to tip regularly there while I was running for Schnellecke on one of my previous jobs, …good friendly lads in yard at that time, a yard in Preston and Bamber Bridge.
Saw one of their motors while running back up yesterday.
Maybe being ran by the recievers until stuff sorted?
As for ‘skidmarks’ on the industry
I can think of a lot more, in fact one in particular that I would not DARE to mention.
Better know as Half Price Haulage to most lol.
Well sad news they’ve shut up shop
More like good news if you ask me lol Anyone working with borrowed money is working on borrowed time me thinks ?
The only vehicle to be on the strap is the first one, only Prats lease vehicles then work for peanuts, at least Half Price will not have the problem of selling them because they never owned them,
I wouldn’t say good news because some people have lost their jobs. See where you’re coming from though.
Company that gave me my first full time driving job was rough and ready, down to earth, never did me wrong. Did a lot of JLR work and still does. Their drivers used to try to look down on us typical dhl w ankers. But we owned all 30 of our units and they were well maintained, just not fancy brand new or signwritten motors.
From what i have seen at JLR all them drivers are unemployable ? the starter motors and hand brake valves would be worn out in 6 months 30 mins to pick up a trailer ffs, of course that could be down to DHL ??
As for Half Price, most are owned by Asset finance, thats what you get from working Cheap or from useing management that did not do well at maths when they where at school lol , The roads of today would be half empty if every thing on them was bought and Paid for,
To do that you need the proper rate, I would allways park up rather than work at a Crap rate, My moto was its my Rate or NO Rate.
I have had many meetings to discussed new work, when asked what i think of it ? the answer has been the only thing good about it is your Coffee that i have just drank lol
That was my Grandfather’s motto in 1959 !
Hi, I have always listened to my elders, ( hope you did ) it’s not until you get old you realize it was all worthwhile
I was also told no point in getting old if you don’t get wise. lol.
And there are many illustrations around to show the truth of that…
It’s easy to knock some of these firms,.especially the ‘All fur coat but no knickers’ types, thr ones who regularly run for f/all.
But haulage had always been a shark infested cut throat business.
If you refuse a rate,.someone else will.gladly take it on.
One of the best things in my life (although at the time I did not think so) was getting forced out of the owner driver/small fleet owner scene.
I was fine when I started because after firstly subbing for a haulage co (waste of time) I had my own direct work at a couple of places.
In one example a certain firm known locally as ‘The Green Death’ jumped in, said if they got the storage the haulage would be virtually free…how can a small man compete with that.
So many firms are working on minimal profit, and paying their drivers low wages…so I see it from both sides.
Apart from the unscrupulous firms who either run bent, or treat their drivers like sh, (or both) I am never gloating or laughing at any transport firms who go down the khazi…coz I have been there.
Speaking of HPH, was watching that YouTube vid last night of the auditor visting their yard.
Think it was DJ audits not sure, being his usual obnoxious self, till one of the drivers had enough and planted him
