As if!!!
And it may well upset some of you gaffers, but I reckon the Big J/■■■■■■■ was a brilliant bit of kit for it’s day. But then I wasn’t paying for the fuel!

In my considered opinion the Seddon 32/4 with the ■■■■■■■ 220/Fuller 610/Group axle (cause you could get nowt else) was a better motor than the Guy.Cheers Bewick.

Hiya,
Drove both, the only difference in my humble opinion was the Seddon was a little
roomier and I suppose easier to convert to a sleeper if you was that way inclined.
thanks harry, long retired.

Is it a Guy or is it a Seddon??

ARG-001.JPG

Nope it’s neither!
It is in fact an Argyle Christina built by Argyle Diesel and Electronics Limited of East Kilbride in Scotland, note the tartan carpet.
All components were off the peg including the Guy / Seddon Motor Panels cab but not many were built before the company went bust.
Rumour has it they will bring it back in to production should they get independence.

Now there’s an idea. A motor that a driver can repair! Why hasn’t anybody thought of that before? Bin the laptop, sack the smug twxt that pokes the buttons and charges you a testicle. Put me down for a fleet and paint them red and white - nobody else sprays their wagons that colour. Jim
Help! can anybody rope and sheet?

The Guy would have had considerably shorter journey times, because the driver wouldn’t have had to stop every ten miles to pick up odd bits that had fallen off! My old chap was rewarded for all his hard work by being handed the keys to a brand new Seddon. He said it was the worst thing he’d ever driven and that included O-model Bedfords and Thorneycroft Sturdies! The company obviously agreed with him as they never invested in another!

That looks like a very early Big J cab interior when they at first fitted the ■■■■■■■ V6 engine which was going to be the standard engine,Guy soon had to kick that load of rubbish into touch in favour of the 180 straight six ■■■■■■■ and the Gardner. Then there was a large bonnet hump in the middle of the cab.Cheers Bewick.

No mention there of a straight 8 for the dreamers then Dennis?

He didn’t want to draw attention to the fact that he’s still got a barn full of 8-potters up in th’ills. They’ll be on Ebay when he thinks the heat’s off. :unamused:

I believe “The Big J 8 potter” fiasco is a dead duck except for ROF who does his best to keep breathing life into the thread and he gets no help whatsoever from “the true believers” as they have abandoned their futile attempts to produce the photo that never was never mind about some definitive proof that there ever was a Big J with a 240 LXB engine        Bewick.

Thanks, Lance. I knew you wouldn’t let me down.
However, just in case things don’t work as planned, I’m still saving up for a Photoshop programme!

The only 8 pot big J you will see is if someone makes a model of one or BMA.Finland draws you one!

Or indeed Alan Spillett! Why did he paint a Gardner 240 badge on this one, I wonder…? Robert
