GUY Big J 8LXB Tractor Unit

Saviem:
Larry, Dennis, oh my goodness, what on earth are you drinking…Rioja…its like the oil that used to drip out of my BSA Golden Flash…if it was free, I still would never consume that lighter fuel…even less so the Donkey Urine that comes from Espagne…and the anti freeze diluted Red X that our Italian friends export…Castrol R in a glass case!!

And I will not mention the Antipodean “Bladder” wines that are transported in a sort of “super condom” to be bottled in Liverpool, High Wycombe, or other such unhealthy climes…and the same goes for the Californian" pee",…you should just see how the “Wet Backs” working in the vinyards treat the grapes…USA wine, bit like their lorries…all wind and …!!

Gentlemen, please treat your palette with care, drink only Bordeaux, you deserve it!

Im away to my Bollinger, (actually Im going inside to drink it…the rain is getting into my glass!

Cheerio for now.

Well RIOJA Suits my taste buds, It washes the live Oysters down a treat, Then a few Malts to follow, What more can a man wish for, Eh, Regards Larry.

According to the CM on line archive (2nd November 1973 P.30) Guy did offer the 8lxb as an option, that doesn’t of course prove anyone ever had one built

And the converse is also true,Spud,it doesn’t prove Guy’s didn’t build one either, but let’s not go there!!!

Wellas far as I can see we will all just have wait & see Eh, & live in hope that somewhere along the line all will be disclosed in the very near future, Then we can all have a good laugh about it, & Then go out on the P. Mystery solved at last. Regards Larry.

If I win the lotto I’m going to be bored, the mrs is still quite tasty so I won’t be getting a dolly bird, mind you if I did there would still be 23hrs 58mins left each day anyway.

To cut a long story short, I’m going to buy a Big J and shoehorn an 8LXB in it.

Of course it will be painted in Smith’s colours and I will often be found behind the wheel, just cruising around the lake district.

I’ll let you boys know when it’s done and you can hang around waiting to get the elusive shot of those two back pots sticking out from under the cab

Newmercman you will be building something Guy motors never did

Hiya,
You’ll have to fabricate a bit of a nose extension for the front of the cab
to move the radiator into or you’ll have two and a half pots out the back,
do the math, round peg into square hole doesn’t go or is it square peg in
round hole, can’t think ah’ well back to the drawing board.
thanks harry, long retired.

■■■■…back to the drawing board then.

How about a Leyland Buffalo with a 220 Rolls transplant, or I could get a nice little Scania 80.

Hiya,
Don’t waste time on the 80 thingy pile of crap put it to the gas axe,
now the Buffalo with a 220 Roller sounds promising and should make
a driveable commodity,
thanks harry, long retired.

But will there any photo evidence put on the thread Lance!even though it will be classed as an imposter but at least it will give us an idea of what a Big J would have looked like if indeed one had been built eh! Cheers Dennis.PS A Bottle of Chilean or New Zealand, the Southern hemisphere gear is a mile better than anything from the North hic!

“H” before you torch the 80 rob the SUPER badge off the grille, there’s a geezer on here looking for one and he’ll pay top dollar,I told him you a shed full and he should get in touch, you will owe me a pint if you “draw” Cheers Dennis.

I thought those Scania 80’s were a nice little 16 ton rigid, drivers seemed to like them (apart from H  ) but then I never drove one of course. I do remember taking a Foden to Gardner’s with a problem and it actually overtook an artic Scania 80 going up Death Valley on test fully laden, mind you the Scania was pulling a laden tri axle and was chucking clouds of black smoke out. Gardner’s test driver was chuffed to bits that a 201 had actually passed a Scania, he then declared there couldn’t be any problem with the engine if it could do that. Mind you, if the Foden had been fitted with a 240 8LXB like the Guy Big J (see what I did there? ) nothing would have passed us…

Pete.

Well speaking of the old Fodens, A pal of mine from Aberagie Perthshire fitted an 8 Potter into his S80 Tipper , & He ran it for quite along time, I think I have a photo of it somewhere, Regards Larry.

Hiya,
Pete didn’t dislike the Scania 80s as a rigid but max as a 6 wheeled rigid which
I never drove The one I got lumbered with was supposed to be a 32 tonner and
the continentals only rated them at I think 26 tonners as a big artic it was crap
and Dennis me with anything to do with Scania 80 no way and any more of that
I’ll get Billy Bowker to come to your place to get my Knight’s head back.

Here we go, talking to a man today who said his dad drove for S.O.M. on trunk from Glasgow to Liverpool driving a Guy Big J 8 LXB, fleet number ten ten not 1010. He also said they only had 4 Big J’s 8 LXB’s on regular trunks, this one, ten ten was on what they called the Lancashire trunk.

I thought this may be of interest on this thread as it says they did :exclamation: :unamused: :unamused:

ANON.

That one must be fitted with the special short version of the 8 LXB , it does not have the extended front facelift grille , and it has a spare wheel between back of cab & 5th wheel .
