Well now lads, don’t get upset as I quite believe someone like Tommy when he says that there were 3 8LXB Big J’s at SOM Glasgow, and ,go on then,at least one at SOM Manchester(but that could have had an AEC 505 engine !!) and the one down in Radnorshire. But where o’ where were the other 35 based and who operated them ? Seems to me that there were indeed SOME Big J’s built with 8LXB engines but nowhere near the numbers claimed !! Probably it’s a case of “over enthusiastic” multi accounting !!! Keep the pot “boiling” we may yet get to the true facts of the matter!! Cheers Dennis.
Now then Dennis, does that amount to an admission on your behalf that there were 240 Percy powered Guy Big J’s about?

As I’ve said before David,I don’t dispute that the odd 8LXB Big J would not have been built !! But not in the numbers claimed and ,of course, why no photographic evidence ? Must be the only British model never to have been photo’d,very strange don’t you think ! Cheers Dennis.

I’m with Dennis on this, yes they may have built one or two but 40 to one company with a prestige motor like the 8lxb, that would have received a lot of press clips.I don’t think ERF or Atkinson would have got their hands on 40 8lxb’s at once just for one order.
BRS had their own production line at Fallings park and they were hard pressed to get 14 motors to the same spec let alone 40 !

Very well put Trev ! As Guy were the poor relation in the Leyland Group there is no way they would have been allowed to get their hands on more than the odd 8LXB,■■■■■■■ and RR yes but not the 8 pot Gardner! Atkinson,ERF and Foden would have definitely had something to say if Guy’s could churn out Gardner engine chassis in the numbers the fantasists claim they did.Cheers Dennis.

Tell you what Harry they would’nt have got a 8LXB in to one of them
8 LXS Didnt exist in those days, perhaps the 8 LW did, but as you say the wouldnt fit into the old motors we are refering to , The old Guys I remember with the Indians Head on was in the 40/50s Era, most likley to have a Gardner LW Or LK engine 4/5/Cylinder version, mind you they were good on fuel, & they were the days when money could be made in the haulage game, Now its a bloody nightmare, money ? its all spent on fuel & running costs with a very low return on ones investmants, Im out of it now enjoying retirement, Happy Days Eh, Regards Larry.

Hi v7victor
Nice little line up.
You would think Roy Hodgson would have a soft spot for Wolves
having driven that Invinsible, although probably not. Mike.
Wonder what powered this one ?
