ND888 BIGJ:
i have just nominated berwick for an award on the best post for 2011 over on the proffesional driver forum. All the posts on here and he is still in denial lol
or maybe a special ward for keeping a thread alive 74 pages is amazing !!!
wish all you believers a very merry christmas and a happy new year to you all hoping 2012 can be friutfull in our quest lol
ps and a merry christmas to you to berwick (you miserable old git do you know how many hours i have spent searching for conclusive proof its driving me mad lol)
Question no 1,Is this going to be a “proper” award ceremony? Q2, If so am I right in assuming it will be held at a Park Lane(London) venue? Q3 how much will a table be for,say,10 or 12 cost? My guests will be travelling from all corners of the UK (including France!) but also from the IOM,The N. East (and Chester-le Street),Sheffield,Penkridge,Bristol,Cheshire,South Wales and Scotland ! So we’ll all need a room, and I suppose I’ll need one with a lounge for hosting the “before and after” ■■■■ up.Oh! and you’d better book a few rooms for our “better halfs” in the Hilton Mews !! Can’t allow any Ag. from those “who must be obeyed at all times”!!!We can gather for lunch the next day on Harrods Verandah!!! I have ommited to include DtR who I suppose will be the MC for the evening and will be seated at the top table with all the “believers” and he would not want to sit in Siberia round the back of a pillar on our table!!! .But we’ll have one consolation, our dinner won’t be “humble pie” that they will be having on the top table, and I bet he’ll choke when he has to present my award ( A Big J front bumper!) I can’t carry on with this Bollox,“H” and me are off down Leman St. for a decent “craic”,anyone else coming, only 5 in a cab lads yer not in “geordie” land now Bonny lads !! Cheers Dennis.
Hi Dennis. Don’t forget the rest of use who have been patiently watching this thread with eager anticipation. We have’nt given much input but we have got to be classed as “those bloody hangers on” don’t mind a Premier Inn for the night and we can stand outside the Hilton as long as there’s a patio heater going and the odd drink is forth coming.Surely got to be worth it for the support. And then the said Guy reversed up to the doors as you exit,we are working hard on it down here Hedley and Co are just sorting the prop. Then she will be ready for a test run.Don’t forget us Dennis.Regards Mike.
i see you are back to your best stirring form dennis , you’ve been a bit quiet of late . all the very best wishes to you and ann for christmas and the new year , and may we all find the answer to the eternal question in 2012 , regards , dave

Vitriolic Dave ? Thats what they make WC’s and wash basins from isn’t it? Cheers Dennis.
Bewick:
No lads it will have to be “vegetarian” only do if your going to sling it about !! Have you seen the cost of a decent turkey this year ? No ,the turkey is going home in my “carry out bag” not a bloody “doggy bag” either!! It can have the “inards and gizzard” after we’ve simmered them and poured the juice off to make the gravy !! Cheers Dennis.
Typical guvnor. Not only do we have to put up with a freezing cold gutless wagon (180 or 240 Gardner powered Atki in in this case) to save a few bob on fuel then he’s too tight to spend some of what he’s saved in fuel on ammunition for the forthcoming battle between the non believers and the heretics, concerning the question as to wether Guy’s/Leyland’s management finally said no to putting an even bigger boat anchor in the Big J than the 180 Gardner, regardless of how much decent whisky was involved in trying to persuade them to do it.

He won’t be spending anything on ammunition Carryfast. He’s appearing in the panto
" A Christmas Carol " in Blackpool as Bah Humbug Scrooge .
Cheers Dave.
Well at least I’ll not be eating a large portion of “humble pie” for my Christmas lunch !! Unless ,of course, Santa is going to deliver a photo of a Big J c/w a Gardner 8LXB !Cheers Dennis.
This is a genuine Guy Big J with an 8LXB which has been show on this thread several times
Where was that Big J registered Dave “DS” prefix ? And how come there appears to have been at least another one in Tamworth, makes a mess of the previous (verified apparently !) mathematics SOM=39 MAE= 1 = 40 + 1 at Tamworth now !! Cheers Dennis.

Wow a 240 badge ! I had a jaguar mascot on my big j, didn’t have a jaguar engine though

Curioser & Curioser DS was originally a Peebleshire registration , then was a Glasgow registration issue between 1974 & 2001 , but is now a Shrewsbury / Deeside issue .
Is this then a " genuine " SOM outcast , (or did they take all 40 & get shot of 1 right away ) could this one see into the future , were all 40 originally exiled to Scotland & Smiths only took 39 & this one was sold to Evans having already been registered in Scotland .

It was with an oil company in Scotland for six months from new.M A Evans bought it of Chaddesley Commercials from Kidderminster and ran it until it was finished and eventually cut up.It was a genuine 240 Gardner.
Cheers Dave.
PDL MONAGHAN:
hi its tommy doyle here the first big j 240 fleet number was ND 878 ND 888 ND 889 These three were all based at glasgow depot
just to complicate things there were 2 seddons with the 8LXB engine
im afraid i dont have any pictures of there waggons sorry
tommy great to hear from you you must remember me robin i hooked up your trunk motor a few hundred times nd 888 as well for all the doughters on here yes it was a 240 and in your own words a flying machine but just cause we didnt stand about all day taking photo of the lorrys then they didnt exist so we must be talking nonsence
Well now lads, don’t get upset as I quite believe someone like Tommy when he says that there were 3 8LXB Big J’s at SOM Glasgow, and ,go on then,at least one at SOM Manchester(but that could have had an AEC 505 engine !!) and the one down in Radnorshire. But where o’ where were the other 35 based and who operated them ? Seems to me that there were indeed SOME Big J’s built with 8LXB engines but nowhere near the numbers claimed !! Probably it’s a case of “over enthusiastic” multi accounting !!! Keep the pot “boiling” we may yet get to the true facts of the matter!! Cheers Dennis.
Hey! do you realise the “■■■■ storm” you are going to bring down on your head by making a statement like that !!! I’d put the umberella up and run to the bus shelter if I were you Pal !!! Cheers Bewick.
