In Motor Transport today the above company has announced the loss of a major contract, seeing that Gregory’s are a company run by its owners and has operators licenses
for over 2000 vehicles I wonder who has appeared to cut the job up.

Well they’ve taken the out sourced Hovis contract in Cornwall from DHL mind DHL didn’t really want it anymore as I understood it .
I’ve no inside line on anything, but price isn’t everything. If a company fails to meet their existing contract for any reason (time, damage, or other reliability issues) then a more expensive transport supplier could be brought in.
Also a company I worked for, lost a good contract, we were doing well, because the Head Office (in another country) was worried about nepotism. A new boss in the big chair and all had to change.

I know. That’s why I normally feel quite at home here. If one of my posts doesn’t conform to the communal insanity, don’t fret, normality (?) will be resumed soon.

Gregorys hold the Operators Licence for Coulthards!
I think the only contract loss that would cause Gregory’s serious problems would be Milk Link, which probably accounts for 35% of their work. There is a lot of consolidation going on in the dairy industry and I know there were concerns about the growth of Robert Wiseman Dairies. Probably their second biggest contract would be Coca-Cola but I doubt this makes up much more than 10% of their work.
they did have a contract for Cadbury’s chocolate, but that was about ten years ago based at perryvale middx,i done it for a week before jacking it,not a bad job if you had a sweet tooth,in the canteen they had a large dish full of Cadbury’s chocolates which you helped yourself to[free]the catch was you were not allowed to take them with you,had to be eaten on site before you left, nothing wrong with them, twix, flakes, caramels, the lot.

Must have been something wrong with the Twix, Cadbury’s have never made them.

Lost business was with Mondelez e.g Cadbury (to DHL), Burt’s Crisps (to Ceva), MMD Ltd (fruit, Portsmouth), Arla (cheese, North Tawton - moved to Shropshire).
Recent wins… Smurfit Kappa (Yate, Barnstaple, Weston-S-Mare), Medina Dairy (Wickham & Thame), Hobbycraft (Burton on Trent), County Confectionary (Cornwall).
Read on further only if very interested…
Significant other contracts I can think of, for which Gregory’s are doing transport… Booker (Patchway), The Range Stores (Doncaster & Avonmouth), Norbord (South Molton), Refresco (Bridgwater), Spar Stores (Cullompton), Yeo Valley Foods (Highbridge), Crown Pet Foods (Castle Cary), Allied Bakeries (Willand & Launceston), Hovis (Plymouth), Dairy Crest (Davidstow cheese), Crediton Dairy Ambient, South West Water biosolids, British Ceramic Tiles, Vital Pet Products, Palletways, PalletLine, etc. I don’t know anything of the Scottish and Welsh operations.
How’s their walking floor landfill side going
In all seriousness though does anyone know if they’re still doing landfill work on walking floors?

the Vital Pet contract will get bigger soon, I have a feeling.
I just left there.
What work are Gregorys doing for Vital, the shops or trunking. When I was there, about 12 years ago, they had about 20 rigids on the shops and about 7 or 8 artics on trunking between depots and collecting from suppliers.

Vital are moving to a cross dock at salisbury area so Gregory are currently doing overnight trunk with vital own trucks doing trunking and supplier pick ups. Shops are still done in house atm.
