Following on from the death of Randy Meisner, there have been some really fantastic singers in the rock world I’ll start off with Dan McCafferty and Brad Delp:
It depends on your taste in music to some extent.I’m a heavy rocker and I appreciate the talents of such as Ian Gillan,Robert plant,Bon Scott/Brian Johnson,Bruce Dickinson,David Coverdale and Rob Halford, among others.I also like Till Lindemann, singer of Rammstein.
Not just rock but general pop.
John Lennon once said…‘‘I like that guy, he sings like me’’.
Can’t see it myself,… he was talking about Noddy Holder of Slade.
Roger Hodgson of Supertramp.
The guy has his own unique and instantly recognisable style.
My favourite Supertramp track.

Agree about Ian Gillan and add that Ian Paice is a very under rated drummer

Robert Plant of course which shows off John Bonham

which leads on nicely to Graham Bonnet with Cozy Powell as drummer Roger Glover on Bass and Ritchie Blackmore.
I think Ian Gillans best song as a singer was “Fighting man” - tremendous guitar solo too - one of the best I’ve ever heard.
I like Lennon’s singing in different eras - love the rock voice he had in the early 60s, that dreamy, psychedelic voice he used on Strawberry and Lucy, the anguished stuff like Don’t let me down and his first solo album. I think he sings Mind Games great too.
But - Paul Rodgers in his prime takes some beating. Free and Bad company up to about 1979 - he’s faded a lot since the 70s but I suppose most of us do lose the fire when we get the mortgage and our first wig.

Used to love him as a kid - what a voice and a great songwriter too. Still tours today - very polite charming man.

John Lennon, often mimicked but never matched.
Yep Paul Roger’s.
Saw him on the Free /Bad Co tour at Manchester must be 10 years ago.
btw)
Thought he made a better lead singer for Queen than Adam Lambert
Lennon ranked and although not rock I agree with their no1 and place their no14 at no2.

I think Noddy Holder doing a cover of Twist & Shout would sound very like John Lennon. The track featured on the Please Please Me LP and the sleeve notes suggest Lennon had “ Leather tonsils”
Did a quick Google and apparently he was recovering from a heavy cold when the recording was done and he very nearly permanently damaged his throat.
Tyneside
Became an Alice Cooper fan as a boy and still listening to Vincent’s music above all others in the rock sphere over 50 years later, saw the group first on the Welcome to My Nightmare tour circa 1972 to a suprisingly small audience.
Right…here’s a curveball.
Take the ■■■■ I ain’t bothered,.I’m as big as a fan of rock and heavy rock as the rest of you.
I’m speaking here as an ex ‘‘Superstar DJ’’ ffs man
Versatility, vocal dexterity, capable of singing all or most genres of music?
Wait for it…
George Michael…yeah I know. …maybe not a ‘‘Rock’’ singer granted.
Just go with it for a minute…humour me.
Forget the .Wham commercial stuff ‘Wake me up before you go go’’ type cack, (although Everything she wants was a good track tbf )
This guy’s vocals and range are/were in the same stable as Freddie Mercury.
Just watch him here rehearsing for his Queen track for the Freddie benefit gig…Noti even Bowie stood nonchalantly and coolly in the background can not believe it , although he is trying his best not to look impressed.
…Watch this without prejudice (pun intended )
I’d go as far as to say his version is better than the original Queen one. …and I am a Queen fan.
I watched his last gig on tv, he did a rave type version of his ‘Spin The wheel’ this guy could do and sing any ■■■■■■■ thing.
Anybody agree am I gonna get ridiculed (again ) here…bring it on .
I agree with you totally a fantastic performance. I should have perhaps left out the word rock because there are so many clear, distinctive voices worthy of mentioning who are really from different genres.
can’t believe roger daltrey has’nt been mentioned, one of the greatest frontmen… agree about G M post wham he was superb… loved the bloke, not in the way he would of liked tho…
I couldn’t stand George M when he was in Wham - it was only really when his life started falling apart that I ever listened with both ears and tbf he did have a bit of feel to his voice on some songs.

The wife loved him in Wham,.when I look back at the old clips I can’t believe none of us guessed he was gay …, in fact I always thought he and Princess Di would get together as a couple seeing as they were good friends…shows how good my perceptions are eh?
I got to like him as a solo artist, I absolutely loved ‘Different Corner’

I told the Mrs I wanted either that or ‘One more try’ played at my funeral,

I think that Roger, ‘(along with AC/DC’s Brian Johnston, Mick Jagger, and Freddie Mercury ) comes under the ‘Taken for Granted’’ list .
you betta, you betta, you bet too never take roger for granted…
