London is due to be the first to ban trucks in the morning and afternoon rush hour to protect cyclists that insist on killing themselves by crashing in to left turning trucks.
Then bless the commuters as we make them late for their Latte .
Do they think we go there for the fun it, the customers wants his stuff there when they open up .
Other cities would follow.
In Europe they have transport hubs where artics deliver, then smaller vehicles forward the goods to the city .
At these hubs, they have garages, tyre depots, cafes, motels, Customs clearance for TIR journeys .
All towns and cities have bypases and ring roads , the UK has main roads going through the center of towns and cities which is ridiculous and stupid .
One word sums this up, appeasement. It won’t ever happen but government will have earned brownie points for trying.
If thats the case for 2 Hours in the morning and 2 in the evening, where are all those lorries going to park up ?
Lets ban vehicles off the road which pay road tax to allow people who do not pay road tax to use the road
Sounds totally reasonable and sensible

Downing Street
And can we have a weekend lorry ban, UK wide as well.

This ^^^^ 100%.
How much more crap like this untill the ToTW become accountable?
Why not just ban HGVs altogether from London I’m more than happy to tip my load at an RDC outside the M25 and have a dozen or more vans deliver my load into that ■■■■ hole
Maybe the cyclists can carry it in one piece at a time
Can’t see this working. All those lorrys would just go into London after the ban times. Won’t solve anything.
No really practical is it? Look at lunchtime when a big proportion take their 45 you can’t get a parking space anywhere. Who’s going to pay these 4 hours a day the driver is sat with his feet up? The government?

[/quote]Like your thinking
we don’t have a ‘rush hour’ anymore,
they refer to it as ‘the rush’
It’s at least 3 hours each way in London, and can take 2 hours to get through,
so when do they think it will apply?,
and what happens if you get stuck in it when the ban starts? Park up? - Where FFS?
Totally unworkable - what stupid idea are they coming up with next ?
Are they’re actually going to implement this or are they going to continue to talk about it? It’s been on the cards for ages.
Not against it at all.
It would be logical to predict a reduced allowance for larger vehicles would lead to an increased volume of smaller vehicles.
More congested rush hours or no difference only time will tell.
Accountability for cyclists is what’s hanging over em still so if this doesn’t work watch the buggers squeal.
And due to that “Considerate Contractors” bull ■■■■ where building sites don’t take deliveries before 8am and after 4.30, how much longer will projects take when you stop deliveries for this stupid idea? It’ll cost a fortune to have groundworkers hanging about with a concrete pump or crane and skip on hire standing idle. Not forgetting a piling rig with the accompanying piling gang, steel fixers etc all standing about. Excavators sitting around waiting for muck lorries a mobile crane with nothing to do (assuming it’s not stuck in some holding area outside London).
I think sites would go 24hr and then the do gooders would be claiming their health is suffering due to noise pollution.
Apart from that I’m all in favour of it as I’d love to see London screwed up.
Bulldoze Canary Wharf and turn it into a Lorry Park with facilities for transhipping onto 5 cwt vans. A much better use of the land than its current one by the financial parasites.
Only part of the answer .
Need to ban night time loading bans too and encourage this .
To work properly vehicles need to be allowed to leave area during ban , but not do other deliveries or enter zone .
Not a measure purely for cycling , its a measure for easing congestion generally .
Government need to do it properly and tax ALL motor vehicles in busy commuter periods .
Revenue raised can be used for tax credits paid to people cycling / busing to work
Dont understand why lorry drivers get so upset about positive changes . its your boss who has to work it out .
Hopes will see a ban zone in center of Bristol soon too .
Just carry everything with 7.5 Ton to London.
Don’t like trucks? Stop buying stuff!
