May be a stupid question but just wondered why the inside of the door was green, that couldn’t have been original could it?

I think that was the original internal colour. I get a little confused over the origins of this particular vehicle as there were two, both of which I drove, this one RDH and another GUT.
RDH was the first and came from Tony Jones of Sandbach. I think it was originally blue when received. Painted up it was my first sleeper. Then GUT turned up from, I believe, S Jones the tanker people. Being in slightly better condition I was given that until someone took it out the yard with a load of chipboard and parked it in the ditch before they got to the first corner. Got it’s off side wheels on the verge, ran back to the yard to say he had problems and then watched it tip over. :unamused: After that I was back on RDH

The ERF’s with the Rollers could well be the origin of the saying ‘Keep er lit’ With the exhaust just in front the off side front wheel on a dark night you could see a nice cone of flame, it didn’t do a lot for your hearing though. Say again? Passing the Enterprise cafe fully freighted they’d rattle the windows from 50 yards. my Roller was in a Seddon which offered slightly more comfort than the ERF’s (a flat engine cover for one) but all needed an engine rebuild every 100,000 miles or so.

As with all comments here age plays tricks with memory but to the best of my knowledge t’is correct.

Oh yes that flame from the exhaust  I used to take coils to Lucas,s in Brum for Richard Read. Extra money you understand.I liked to pick a Rolls tractor that we had.Frankley bank on the M5 always produced about a foot of flame

Hi Paul,
there’s a photo of the blue erf which I took on page 7 I think. I think its Bendals scraplorry
Ade

Yes, That’s the one I saw and it’s parked exactly where I saw it…Shall have to call by again…Cheers Ade.

So Bendall finally got his own lorry?
Young George sent me to Bendalls yard one morning to pick up a loaded skip of scrap to take to Llanwern. My poor old Mercury skip lorry wouldn’t lift the thing off the ground. When the front wheels got three feet off the ground I gave up & got him to take enough off the skip so I could lift it. When I weighed it in at Llanwern the net weight was over thirteen tons.

Just wondered if anyone remembers a guy I think his name was or is Fred Freeman & his brother. I think I’m right in saying they used to run a blue Transconti and a couple of 141 Scania’s from a small yard at Upper Redbrook on the Newland road. I got a feeling they ran abroad, whether with one or all their trucks I don’t know any more than that…

I think Bendall’s have had a skip lorry for ages now. I see it flying about quite regularly. Perhaps they got fed up with the guy who did collections for young George…sorry RoF…

One of Gordon Gilders Sheep Taxis` , gathering breeding lambs at Hawes Auction Mart , North Yorkshire.

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Whos’ yard is it beside the M5 that was an old railway goods yard (goods shed still in situ)? Looks like a skip firm as there were several Bedford TKs in there last time I passed. From my limited railway knowledge f the area, I’m guessing it was the old Dursley station??

Sounds like Hogarth’s skip hire at Draycott near Cam. I’ve not been down that area in ages…
