Anyone got photo’s of Jimmy Randford or his boy’s trucks…I see the one son drives a Brandon mixer lorry, but a photo or two of Jimmy’s F86 or any others…

I remember Jimmy- he used to take his mate with him every day. Used to see them in a pub on the left as you enter Cinderford from Steam Mills every Sunday morning. Can’t remember what he drove at the time, but it must have been before he had a Volvo.

Hi Rof, That may have been the Globe pub, just past Haines motorcycles on the left. That pub’s was shut for years & years, then the vet’s took it over. I know Jimmy and Nicky who I think is his youngest boy. He ran his own lorry for years but perhaps things got a bit tight and found it easier working for someone else. He’s the same age as our brother. I remember going to Bilson junior school at the same time, then we moved to Newnham and then to Worral Hill. I have asked about for any photo’s, thought it would be good to post some of his on yer. But alas nothing yet…

Aha, The Globe! Why can’t I remember the simplest things, yet the tiniest detail springs readily from the Little Grey Cells.
The Globe had an old piano on which several of the keys still worked! We stoked up with a pint or two in there before going on to the Legion club, where we had the luxury of a Lowrey electronic organ. The gang was always keen for me to accompany them on their pub crawls as they would benefit from the free beer which was passed over the bar when I beat seven kinds of sh*t out of whatever musical instrument was to hand.
Happy days!

Yers a couple of Jimmy Nash’s. Don’t know if I put these on before?..Oh well…

That Foden is the business, very nice a credit to them.

Yers a couple of when our brother was at Midi’s, long time ago…Surprised he’s still going…

I remember him starting up. If memory serves- and it often doesn’t these days- his family had a smallholding near Upleadon.

A mate of mine has recently purchased Hedley Midwinter’s 111 Scania- VEO 401T. I think it started out with T Brady & Sons at Barrow then it did a brief spell with Spiers & Hartwell in Evesham before passing to Alan Hughes at Welland who was the last owner prior to Midwinters.Cab is completely shot but another has been purchased and work is in progress! Ironically it has ended up back where it spent many years in the 80’s on Alans farm.

Copied this from another site…Cheers Steve…What’s with the ‘KV’…0

KV is for daughter Katie.

Looks like a typical Friday afternoon with the trailer part loaded, it wouldn’t go until it was up to the roof (And often into it to squeeze the last one on). Anything up to 20 drops around Europe and hopefully loaded in the correct order. It was OK once you got the first couple of deliveries off but often these could be single pack deliveries to small companies tipping on the side of the road with even smaller fork lifts.
With sliding roof curtain liners I was often told by the old hands that the job was far easier than when tilts were used.

Looking at the trailer it was 12mtrs with a chain operated sliding roof. As the bundles were of 6 to 8mtrs lengths fitting the load on was a work of art. I can’t remember if it was on steel or air.

I was speaking to Fred Freeman’s nephew today and it turns out that it was Jim Freeman, the brother of Fred that dies 14 years ago. Fred is not in very good health and lives in Monmouth. Just thought I would share that with you guy’s…

Sorry, Keith, I lost touch with the Downton enterprise after Con died. They sure didn’t have such a huge fleet in those days.](Screen capture tool for Windows — Postimages)
