Obviously you have more experience of the subject than I, Dave!
None whatsoever Casey, only saying what I’ve heard about the place. I’m quite happily living over the brush with a female.
Cheers Dave.

This is the start of the Friday evening rush hour on one of the roads into Gloucester. Would you believe this was just after midday?
Thank goodness I’ve retired!0
It’s like that every Friday, summer or winter.

Anyone got any photos of Santa Fe? They were another firm who seemed to be here one day and gone the next.

Hi ROF they were around for a good number of years based in the old Tate & Lyle depot at Stoke Orchard ,eventually being bought by Oldacres Animal Feeds who in turn sold out to Unigate , Santa Fe thus became part of Wincanton. I suppose that it was inevitable that as Wincanton already had a considerable presence in Brockworth with both the Cold Store and SKB they saw fit in their infinite wisdom to close it down . It’s owner and founder, emigrated to the US but returned a few years later to set up Atchison Topeka.
Thanks for the photo, McW.
Cheers, Laurie, that also answers my next question- is there a connection with AT?
I wonder if Maguires were concerned when all those Santa Fe lorries appeared in the same group as Oldacres?

I know that Santa Fe ran several of their units pulling bulkers for Oldacres in particular for the grain division based at Ducklington. The main reason that Unigate bought Oldacres was to have an in house supplier of feedstuffs for their Poultry rearing units i.e J P Woods etc. I don’t think it affected Maguires too much as they had always had irons in other fires as well. I did a lot of work for Oldacres in the 70’s but that was before Maguires were on the scene.

The 111 in the picture was one of 3 they ran the first being a P reg RAB ■■? P the next 2 being VNP 212V & KAD ■■? V , the latter being written off after being sold to an O/D.
You can usually rely on somebody to fill in the details.
Thanks, matey.

Sorry mate I got the 111 reg mixed up with the transcon! There was a Transcon which remained in the Ford demo livery for a long time i.e yellow/brown it was LAB 151T . There was one 141 in the fleet which I think was OFX 800W.

I’ve seen a picture of, I think it’s a Merc. SK. reg; NDD 773W in blue with red sun-visor, grill, bumper and mudguards pulling a Santa Fe twin axle curtainsider. I don’t know if this belonged to a subby or what. Be nice to find out…

I think IIRC that truck belonged to a farming partnership from Stoke Orchard which was Bellingham & Knight who used to do bulk work but subbed for Santa Fe when the bulk work was quiet. I think that Colin Bellingham who used to drive it was badly injured in a motorcycle accident and subsequently the vehicle was sold. I think that info is fairly accurate but the old grey matter is getting past the sell by date - Cheers
