Seeing as how I’m stuck up here in exile and not hearing any gossip for yonks, can any of you fill me in as to how many lorries Harold Read is running these days? And is Harold still with us? He must be getting on a bit by now.

I think he passed away last year Casey. I could be wrong, one of the F O D boys will correct me if I am.
Cheers Dave.
Thanks, Dave. I dare say Paul or Leylandlover will put me right.
He is still very much with us and I think he still runs 4 or 5 trucks. I’ll ask our brother in the morning but I’m sure it’s around that number so will let ya know…still how are you sticking this weather, way up there north of Gloucester?

Dave, You may be thinking of good ol’ George Read who passed away last year…
Yes I can confirm that HR does run 4 trucks. Steve, Phil, Malcolm & Paul are the drivers. Paul’s dad used to run his own blue & cream ERF ‘B’ series years ago. You are now up to date R.o.F…
This DAF 85 was photographed on Malta about 6 years ago, and enjoying the warmer weather too.
Still clearly bearing the name John H. Cecil, Coleford, Forest of Dean
, the DAF probably awaits its next job.
Cheers, cattle wagon man.

Many thanks fer that, Paul. I knew one of you would know the answer to such a simple question! Nice to know he’s still around- I had a lot of time for Harold & his extended family. Despite being busy most of the time they all took the time and trouble to welcome this “outsider” and gave me plenty of help and advice, not to mention knowing where all the best pubs and parties were! Happy days.

Yes, a very nice chap. Guy’s like that are few and far between and getting fewer. I’ve got a lot of time for Steve & Phil too, no matter what they’re doing they’ve always got time for a chat…

Weather has been OK for a week or two, but I’m digging out the passport and getting my visa stamped at Frankley this morning. Been invited to my daughter’s for a long weekend, what with it being Father’s Day. Looking forward to a few days in the tropics- I’ll be in Fairford (bit posh!) so if anyone, especially Muckaway wants to nip down the road & treat an old age pensioner to a pint in The Bull, I’ll be waiting in the bar!
R.O.F I’ve had a couple of pints this evening in your honour. Can’t say too much but I’m looking into a career with an old time Gloucestershire company…
Talking of the Fairford area, found this from a few years ago;

Thanks, matey. I appreciate the thought, even though the beer might have been better!
Back up in t’North now, armed with a selection of bottles from Father’s Day.
This Gloucester firm sponsors a successful motorcycle racing team competing in the British Supersport Championship. Spotted today on the A417 Southbound near the Air Balloon roundabout on Crickley Hill.
This is the start of the Friday evening rush hour on one of the roads into Gloucester. Would you believe this was just after midday?
Thank goodness I’ve retired!

I hope you weren’t lurking around that beauty spot after dark Casey. Either Leckhampton or Birdlip.
Cheers Dave.
Crickley Hill, just above the pub, Dave. I wouldn’t go near there in the hours of darkness- there are rumours that naughty ladies are on the prowl, looking for poor innocent retired lorry drivers.

From what I’ve heard they ain’t just ladies on the prowl up there Casey.
Cheers Dave.
Obviously you have more experience of the subject than I, Dave!
