I’ve had a chat with our brother and got some pictures of Yorkley Timber’s to look at. I don’t know how big a firm they were, he reckons they only had a few trucks. Heres one of an ERF LV…ps. Does anyone have any photo’s of Mike Prosser’s or H.S.Williams to share?

Hello and welcome Martin. Nice to know you finally got the hang of computers…
Yers one of H S Williams Fodens. Ex Joseph Rice…
While I think of it, I seem to remember H.S.Williams running Octopusses (Octopii?) in the late '50s/ early '60s. Can anyone confirm this?
And I have just signed up for a photobucket account. Summat else fer me to learn about
Just had someone ask if I know anything about a TM Bedford Reg. WVD 675Y with Dean Haulage on the door. Must be quite an old photo this guy has got. Its got a white roof, Dark blue cab with a yellow stripe around and a red chassis and wheels pulling a silver TIP rental curtainside trailer. I cant say that I can recall it but if anyone out there can shed any light on it, I would be grateful…Cheers

Hi Rof , yes indeed they had Octopusses about 8 of them many ex BRS Swansea ,but they did buy a couple new .
Most of the work was steel from Ebbw Vale or waste paper for R W Kent back then in Monmouth .
They also did steel from Partridge Jones from Risca regards Keith
I thought I wasn’t imagining it!
That must have been in the days when Baynham’s were running coaches from The Swan Hotel. Remember them?
I’ve noticed recently how much lower lorry drivers wages are around Gloucestershire compared with Oxfordshire; It can be more than £1 per hour. Now, considering the Cotswolds are a tourist haven, remote in most parts, how can drivers make it pay?
When I was out of work/on agency I looked into working “over the border” but it just wouldtn’ve paid what with travelling expenses etc. Shame as I love runs that take me westwards.

Oxfordshire is considered posh so things cost more, the poor people of Gloucestershire have to manage on less money.

You’re on dodgy ground there, Dave. You’ll have Paul & Keith sending a flock of sheep up to do you over if you’re not careful.
