Give way to buses in new highway code?

So, did you do this on your test?

DonutUK:
It’s all about using the size and presence of your vehicle to influence other road users, which is exactly how i was taught to drive buses by London Transport over 20 yrs ago. We were taught to use the bus to make decisions for other road users, and to make progress.

That was exactly the same as my instructor taught when I took my Class 1 nearly 25 years ago. I’ve done it that way ever since.

It’s selfish, but I never let a bus out, unless the road ahead of it is blocked. It’s that stop/start crap the grinds my gears.

And unprofessional, not to mention ignorant.

And the very reason why we have the 3 car rule!

Unprofessional■■?
So its better for a 44ton lorry to stop to let a bus out, then get back up to speed and stop again because the bus has to stop to pick up passengers :unamused:
That rule should only apply to cars and not HGV’s, HGV’s take longer to stop and longer to build up speed therefore creating more emmisions and causing global warming etc surely letting them pass will reduce the emmisions and prevent the polar bears and eskimos from dying?

You see i was taught different - ‘‘you must not use your vehicle to intimidate other road users but you shall commandeer that junction’’

Listen i think we can all agree buses are a pain in the arse. I think lorries should be allowed in bus lanes aswell total waste of road space and it would cut down lorry emissions too stick that in yer pipe :grimacing: But thats a whole new thread

While you’re at it, try and get them to let coaches back in the 3rd lane on motorways…that way i won’t have to sit behind the monotonous idiots that think its funny to sit side by side for 4 or 5 miles down a motorway because neither one of them has the braincells to back off.

Yeah, get 'em to slow coaches down. It’s OK for them to drive up the arse of trucks, whilst loaded with 50+ passengers on board.

Stick the magnet or the wire on and race them up the road - and watch the bus driver get annoyed cos your out in the second or third lane holding your ground with him . Good tip for the M6 on a Saturday afternoon in the summertime - coach loads of totty going to Blackpool on hen nights - some “nice” views  :exclamation:

That happened to me last week in the coach - was catching up with him quite quickly and overtook him, but as I got alongside he decided to speed up, leaving me beside him for a while, so its not only truck drivers that do it
Still, only another 5 working days before Im no longer a coach driver :sunglasses:

By all means, but i bet my coach reaches 100 mph before your truck does!

I use this priciple; For those who know Witney, where you come off the A40 sliproad coming from Burford, you come to the box junction. I gradually creep out to narrow the road down and worry motorists who’d normally ignore a lorry trying to pull out. I know that you can enter a box junction if turning right, but even other lorry drivers don’t like letting you out of that junction.

Poor girl is hardly cold and she is getting the blame for some new rule in the highway code!

Aint no way!

The Highway Code is not a law. It is what is say’s - a " Code".

There is no specific ruling in the “Code” with a heading or sub-heading “Buses”. If there is. It is a request. Not an order
Please take note IANAL.

I’ve tried that - didn’t work!!

Quite a few posters seem to be saying the HWC is not law. Guess its some years since you read a copy and that even when you did, you did not read it in detail.

Many of the rules in the Code are legal requirements, and if you disobey these rules you are committing a criminal offence. You may be fined, given penalty points on your licence or be disqualified from driving. In the most serious cases you may be sent to prison. Such rules are identified by the use of the words ‘MUST/MUST NOT’. In addition, the rule includes an abbreviated reference to the legislation which creates the offence. An explanation of the abbreviations can be found in ‘The road user and the law’.

Read the title of the book - The Highway “CODE” - it is not a law. Never has been - never will be. Believe me.
