Getting red diesel in France with AS24

Just fill up with cherry when nobody is looking and throw away the receipt,it is called heating oil, domestic.

I don’t understand. How would throwing the receipt away help if UKBA dipped your tank?

Put blue dye in the tank, marker for the theives.

you can’t buy red diesel in an AS24 in france unless you have a different company card as the normal AS24 cards do not allow purchse of said diesel :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:
if you have a fridge you need a special card and even then its very hard to get these cards
most UK hauliers will buy their red diesel in the UK before shipping out

Why would you want to fill the lorry with red when the French don’t allow it either, there are more gendarmes looking for trucks and the penalties are as high or higher?
If you are taking that risk, you might as well just steal diesel, which will cost even less. :imp:
(I do not recommend this as an economy measure  )
Not to mention that the red diesel pump is much smaller, they take a lifetime to fill a fridge fuel tank, never mind the one on the truck.

EDIT> Seen the post about the AS24 card, never had that problem, same card worked all or any of the pumps.

Regards,
Nick.

then your card must have been authorised for red diesel because most cards in AS24 only allow diesel, when i had our fridge earlier this year i changed cards for that purpose as the one i have only gets diesel and truckwash

I wouldn’t argue with you, not having had a frigo for 9 years, but back then I certainly could fill with red at AS24 with the same card. Has it changed then?

The tanker from the refinery would deliver direct to my tanks on the 1500 litre Scania 142,the tanker driver would question the method of delivery, but a bottle of Bordeaux finest red would settle the matter,i told him the tank would be sealed in the uk,and it was ok in euroland to use cherry. Now that is changed, where the supplier now carries the can,as the client must provide VAT numbers and other details that HMR&C will store in their database.

Would you consider filling the truck with red, in France?
If it was yours, I mean.
I’m sure I wouldn’t.

Nick

Toby, I presume you are thinking of putting dye in the red to mask it from a “dip”? It doesn’t make any difference, you cannot mask red diesel anymore, because when VOSA do a “dip”, they can tell from the molecular structure of the fluid whether it is red or not. They don’t just do it by a visual check anymore. Times have changed, I’m afraid! You can’t “bleach” it out either.

In the 90`s it paid,i got stopped about 3 times a year, one time i left the port in Cherbourg before the Douanes knocked off their shift,i had taken sea sick pills, and told myself not to leave untill they had gone,i did not and got nicked for £700,that my freight forwarder paid for, then i got docked monthly untill the fine was paid.
The sea sick pills make you drowsy and affect judgement.

The customs vans have a science lab in the back, you are correct in the chemical testing.

My ex boss used to run Gibraltar and the UK with Kerosene and Paraffin,he had a 30,000 litre tank in the yard, bless his cotton socks, the engines did not like it.

:open_mouth: I’ve heard of a few people using kerosene, I can’t remember what they added to it to make a cleaner burn, but alot of £££’s at risk if your motor goes bang!!

It smells bad too.

i used to pay 12 pence per litre for red in the 90`s,happy days.

I must be getting old and wonder why anyone needed to carry 1500 litres of diesel to Spain, sealed up or not :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

2008 was historically the highest price for fuel but from the times I have done Spain, we always tried to fuel up there.

Kerosene doesn’t do a diesel engine any good at all, it is too dry and will damage bearings and bores

You get to Lisbon and halfway back before filling agin with heating oil in France,

You must’ve been on dreadfull rates if you couldn’t pay £700 back out of one trip running on red!!!
