Fuel economy

Sploom:
Fuel economy.
Ive been looking at the points on my routes where,if you turn the cruise off,the truck slows down and by the time you get to the roundabout,no need to apply the brakes.Braking wastes energy.

The fact that you’re approaching a roundabout onviously in high gear on cruise control suggests that you can’t drive.
As opposed to in the yellow band maximum rpm with exhaust brake engaged.
Now awaits high RPMS wastes fuel.

Sploom:
Yep,youre right, too much time to think on this job…

You obviously don’t want to ‘think’ about the credibility of a narrative, which says that 2,375 x the proportion of CO2 that we have, in an atmosphere that’s only around 100x less dense, = a 65 degrees C negative greenhouse effect.

robroy:

Sploom:
But ,going back to the global warming problem, the co2 emmisions last year was 37 billion tonnes worldwide.Thats about 4.5 tons per head of population, ACORDING TO MY CALCULATIONS.If the carbon capture machines can take out one ton of CO2 for about £150,that means ,if we all paid £600 each,we could remove the excess carbon from the atmosphere
Its something that has to be done, there is too much at stake

:open_mouth: You’ve got far too much time on your hands mate, (and the world on your shoulders) if you want to fork out x no of quid as a voluntary tax :unamused: ,.crack on just don’t involve me…I pay quite enough already.

A better system would be economise on unnecessary expenditure, let’s start with my pet hate of 6 mill a day on illegal scroungers in 4 star hotels.

You are the sort of bloke who would readily agree to pay for any damage to your firm thus becoming their Driver/insurance broker,.then go on to tell us… ‘Its only fair,.I did the damage’. :unamused:

Wake up.and see things like this as they really are. :bulb:
Just get on with your life as I’ve said before, and leave it to the powers that be to continue to [zb] up everything up that they touch…there is the far end of f/all you or me can do about it…fact.

You mean you haven’t torn out the gas heating and made the change to all electric with the EV.As part of the crusade to burn every tree and cover every field in solar panels and build a nuke power station at the end of every street. To reach the elusive goal of 0.01% C02 level at which point any remaining plants will have died and we all suffocate for lack of oxygen if we don’t starve
or get irradiated first.
You should be ashamed of yourself for not getting on board with Sploom’s narrative.

Sploom:
So,I managed to get in the top 5% for fuel economy.I dont get anything ,not even a ‘well done’,but at least the satisfaction that I made a small effort to stop more carbon going into the atmosphere. It wont save the worl,I get that, but we’re in the [zb].The ice caps are melting. They reflect the sun,so when they melt, the sun heats the water more, causing more ice to melt.Maybe you dont believe all this,or you just dont care.If youre earning 50k and you wont pay an extra £50 to offest the flight pollution,or youre driving a big car that you dont really need and taking holidays in those big, awful cruise ships belching out black oily smoke, you just dont give a [zb].But here we are,we all ignore the elephant in the room, until we are up to our necks in water…

Good old you for getting in the top 5 percent for fuel economy but spare me the sermon ffs.what a load of sanctimonious ■■■■■■■■.
Driving a big car I don’t really need?
No but I’ve got two small cars I don’t really need-one is supercharged and the other is a 3.4 litre flat six-I’m just about to go out in it now-i don’t need to, but I am because I want to.it’s great fun
And I’m not about to chop either of them in for a brand new electric car that will pillage the earth’s resources to make it

Struggling a bit with my fuel economy in the car…

I’d love 19.2 I’ve got a hairdresser special SLK 320 V6 and an immature right foot. I can only dream of 19.2

My best was almost 20 gallons gone in the 35 minutes it took to cover the around 80 miles between Basel and Kehl.

Perhaps mr Greenpeace that started the thread can help us with our driving style.he’s in the top 5 percent don’t you know

Perhaps not. It would be a terrible way to go; dying of tedium

It doesnt take much effort to get in the top 5 percent, when everyone seems to be rushing around like crazy. You can still have a decent life while still making an effort to minimize your carbon footprint as much as reasonably possible or you can just take the attitude of not caring what sort of planet our children and grandchildren will inherit

My work often takes me to Blackford in Perthshire, home to Highland Spring Water. I watch a procession of trucks coming and going . They have recently added a rail freight terminal for inter modal containers. One of the things that the Romans did for us was to transport water in pipes. !. When I see all of this “logistics” nonsense I wonder if they know what a pointless job they are all doing.

Its funny, when I worked at Russells,we used to take that highland water off the train at the other end.I remember thinking why dont we just use pipes to transport the water instead, especially as the train was promoted as eco friendly!

I have been quietly reading this and laughing my ■■■■ of at the naivety of drivers worrying that their actions are killing the planet and they need to do more blah blah blah.
Listen… billionaires like Jeff Bezos and others are allowed to put themselves in a rocket and be blasted into space for the fun of it causing more polltion in one trip than you or I make in a lifetime. How can that be allowed to happen and why is there no international condemnation from green groups?? Yet you take a flight to Tenerife for your yearly holiday you are made to feel guilty and are ask if you want to “donate” to rplace a tree or two?
Its all about putting the peasants back in their box and back under control.
You extra 1 mpg saving on your driving does ■■■■■■■ to help save the planet.

Thank goodness for that, you’ve put my mind at rest. I was starting to wonder if I should be feeling guilty about the 250 litres of diesel and large quantity of firewood I burned on a long weekend camping trip, last week.

You can laugh .If you want to.You wont be laughing when we’re all knee deep in water. So many people have all these wonderful reasons not to try and reduce their carbon footprint but at the end of the day,we are in trouble and you cant control what others do but you do have the freedom to reduce your carbon footprint within reason

alamcculloch:

Ok ok, but APART from that, what did the Romans ever do for US.

Sploom:

You’re right, it’s no laughing matter. We need somebody to come up with a device that sits on top of the water, or floats as I like to say. Perhaps we could give this device a name…. How about “Ark”? I like it, short, snappy and straight to the point.

You could board it with one of your mates from Sunday club perhaps. That’s the two loons taken care of, now just the rest I reckon. Leave the wasps off this time though please.

So in the hundred years or so since mankind has been plodding up and down the highways in cars and trucks we’ve increased global warming. A hundred years is the blink of an eye to a world that’s thousands of years old so for us to effect this much of a change in such a short period of time I guess we’re pretty good. Cars and trucks are now emitting less pollution and more people are using electric vehicles so shouldn’t the climate warming at least be stabilizing and not increasing or will the decreasing not start till every fossil fuel vehicle is off the road ?

Don’t come out with the predictable “what about your grandchildren “ tosh-
Seriously?
Obviously I care about my as yet unborn grandchildren and the world they might live in,but I do not give a ■■■■ about my carbon footprint! Not whilst China ,India , Russia USA etc etc are pumping out pollution.
Do you seriously think anything you do will affect anything?
Top five percent on fuel economy where you work? Well done-you can feel smug that you’ve helped saved the planet.
I’m going out for another drive in my Porsche, I shall not have a light right foot, I’m going to drive it like I’ve stolen it.great fun.
My grandchildren might get a go in it one day, they’ll love it too…
I burned through 200 litres of diesel in my Scania today, using a couple of litres less will definitely not save our planet ffs.
Get a grip man!!
