I don’t know if it is still there but I used to tip fruit at a place on the a5209 just east of burscough. It was on the RH side as you headed into burscough and they were called “West ■■■■■■■■■■ Farmers” or something like that.
At the time, about 5-6 yrs ago, they had quite a few FH’s that were blue with WCF on the doors and also on the sides of the fridge.
They used to do a lot of RDC work because we’d sometimes reload out of them and it was always 26 pallets with about 5 different products on each.
Tesco Imparticular always got the hump when they asked if I’d go into the coldstore and split down the pallets. I always told them I’d done my job as a driver by getting the load there and unless they wanted to pay me then I wasn’t doing there work for them. They used to threaten that it would take hours to get my paperwork back to me so I’d just ask for a gate pass and told them to send the paperwork on.
There are a few based on (or around) Burscough Industrial Estate.
M J Griffiths and Sephton Transport are on the estate. Both use Topline Scanias pulling white fridges. Griffiths are liveried with company info - Sephton’s aren’t.
Not far from there at New Lane at the former Freshpack (W Gibbons) site is W A Wright / New Lane Transport. They use rental wagons (Volvo FH Globetrotters) pulling rental fridges.
The other one that has been named is on Briars Lane, Lathom which is the other side of Burscough on the A5209. That is indeed WCF, and this is what used to be Harry Hagues. WCF run rental DAF CFs and Actros’s.
Barker, Johnsons and Baybutts don’t do fridge work, and never have. Barker do container and BNFL traction and have ‘new shape’ FH Globetrotters. Johnsons do almost entirely container traction and have new & old shape FH Globetrotters. Baybutt do storage and distribution with curtainsiders and a few dry freight vans -they’ve never had a Volvo in their fleet, which is now all DAF, with XF & CF Space Cabs.
There is another small haulier that was spawned from Barkers that may be the one you’re after, and that is Graham Brothers from Drummersdale Lane at Scarisbrick. They are sometimes in Barkers yard, and they have a couple of FH’s of the age you describe.
It would seem likely that the firm you are trying to contact is Arthur Wright’s (W A Wright / New Lane)
manctrucker:
wont have been new lane as theyre white units ill put some feelers out this week
That’s what Laybybob said the wagon they saw was. The reference to two-tone green was made by Quinny. The two firms in Burscough that have two-tone green paint jobs are Johnsons (Burscough) Ltd, and W Baybutt - neither of which do fridge work.
W A Wright, before the recent dalliance with the New Lane Transport name were a small firm that had a couple of flat-top F10s (TCM 170T and TCM 171T) on market work in the late seventies. They went bust pretty quick and I think Johnsons bought one of them (170) from Lancashire Trucks after it was snatched back.
D T Donald are based at Harold Baybutt’s old yard at Sollom which is a mile from Tarleton and cart for Hazledene Foods who are just next to Hunters at Holmes.
They are an almost exclusively Volvo FH fleet, but AFAIK only have the one FH16-610.
I wouldn’t say they were near Burscough (in local terms) and they are a fully liveried fleet.

Whats the point? You’ll get upset with me, I’ll get upset with you - I just want a quiet life! I get enough grief from the wife without having to get it here too!!!
