We have this morning (Tuesday February 17) arrested two men following the death of four people in Bath last week.

It follows the incident in Lansdown Lane on Monday evening (February 9) when a tipper truck carrying aggregate was in collision with a number of vehicles and two pedestrians.
A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and manslaughter by gross negligence.
A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing manslaughter by gross negligence

I think that’ll be the driver and pos someone in the company

Wonder if there was an eyewitness report they were racing then or would they still try to do the driver even if the brakes were worn out and it was unknown to him?

Does anyone remember this thread was started because 4 people, one of them a 4 yr old girl, died? Its turned into 12 pages of crap from a debate about brakes and braking systems and now its turned into an argument. Can we not just offer condolances to those that died and leave it at that?

I don’t think you’re in any position to criticise others for starting pointless arguments.

I think you’ll find I dont let it rumble on for umpteen pages. And I dont offer unconstructive comments like “what ever” or descent into cheap, nasty name calling. I argue a point and I argue/debate my case. I also know when to bail out. And did I say the argument was pointless? It is valid in context but like the way the glasgow bin lorry thread descended into page after page arguing freedom of speech over some disrespectful “jokes” it cheapens what the thread is started about (plus I think you’ll also find I was the bigger person there and walked away first for that very reason). A few pages about the way to brake coming down a hill and maybe a moan about the lack of training before being allowed to drive a lorry maybe. But 12 pages? People died. All I meant was offer condolances and leave it at that. Dont get me wrong,I like the way threads take sharp turns and change topic and even the arguments as long as they stay civil but not the ones reporting deaths that become name calling and ridiculous comments.

It’s not all about what the vehicle can do when things go wrong, it’s about what they can do when they are right.

but it went wrong :imp: computer says NO :open_mouth:

depends on the evidence there could be more to this than just bad maintenance etc

There’s a stitch up already for Mr potter :imp: maximum 10/ 14 years in pokey :imp: police are quick to blame/ name and shame! :smiling_imp: see the difference between Glasgow bin lorry and this one? :unamused: why is it SOMEONE ? Is to blame  not mechanical failure then? :exclamation: irrespective of " he was racing a 28 year old? " IN A WAGON! :unamused: :open_mouth: it could of happened to anyone/ one of us on any given day! :smiling_imp: the establishment has made up its mind already and MR POTTER WILL PAY! :unamused:

The training regime is to blame END OF/ ENDEX! :bulb: nope South of the border doesn’t operate like that now does it! Well he best take some lube for his maximum stretch. :open_mouth:

Driver has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
Also another man had been charged with causing manslaughter by gross negligence, assume that’s whoever owns the tipper involved?!

Just heard that guess has be the TM or company director.
Was reading the link on itv news and there is a comment saying lorry failed a brake test a few weeks previous so the plot thickens.

Charged ?

My wife is a driving instructor and she has a pupil who has an older brother who went there for a job interview and got offered the job but walked away before starting as he heard lots of bad comments about them from locals and he got the impression they were “not a good bunch to work for”.

A teenage driver has been arrested over the deaths of four people who were struck by a 32-tonne tipper truck as it travelled downhill in Bath.

Philip Potter, 19, was held on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and manslaughter by gross negligence.
A 28-year-old man, believed to be his boss, was also arrested on Tuesday morning on suspicion of manslaughter by gross negligence.
Mr Potter, from Brinkworth, in Wiltshire, was at the wheel of the Scania lorry which careered down a steep hill in Bath, Somerset, before overturning on a Volvo car.
He had only received his HGV licence five days years earlier, on February 4 - the day after his 19th birthday.

Avon and Somerset Police said the 19-year-old suspect and another man, 28, were being held on suspicion of manslaughter by gross negligence.

Phil Allen, 52, and Stephen Vaughan, 34, from Swansea and Robert Parker, 59, of Cwmbran, also died when the truck overturned onto the Volvo car they were in.

An investigation into what caused the truck to crash is continuing. Detectives are looking at the aggregate load it was carrying as well as any potential mechanical faults

Perhaps they don’t do it because there is no need to do it in this day and age, maybe they only thing that is missing from the test is a loaded hill decent, but who in there right mind would want to supervise a learner doing one of them?

weeto:
So, you must of agreed with the other crap I posted, since you didn’t make any comment, and it’s more to do with self preservation than being scared.

no i didn’t agree with it, but appreciate that plenty of people may well agree with you. but i’d be very surprised if anywhere near the same amount agree with you on the bit i highlighted, but you never know!

when i’ve shown people how to go down a hill - in tractors that don’t have the brakes that trucks do and most don’t have an exhaust brake, i wasn’t scared, why would i be? they’ve been talked through how it’s going to happen and told in good time on the way down when and what to do.

as far as self preservation goes, isn’t it better to share the roads with people who know what they’re doing? you could be sat next to someone passing on your experience in a nice calm environment or driving down a hill oblivious to the panic and stress going on in the cab behind you as someone attempts their steep descent whilst fully freighted?

whilst i do think a hill descent whilst fully loaded should be part of the test, it would cause uproar if people from from the flat parts of the country had to travel x amount of miles to get to a decent hill, but maybe they should.
