This was done recently and I seem to remeber a question - what sort of 4 on 4 off ? - all days - all nights - a mixture of both
Or like it seems to be legal with the Aussies, 4 hours on, 4 hours off ?
I do 4 on 4 off tramping
i Have the same truck 99% of the time, i share with the same driver,
my start time is very flexible, usally not long after the other driver has got out,
This week i went in at 18.00 the night before i was supposed to start.But i’m flexible so i don’t complain.
I’m on salary, some days are 15 hours some can be 6, but mainly 15,
I do 3 nights out, my breaks vary from having a minimum 9 up to maybe 15 off
I haul anything that goes in a back of a fridge, but recently been doing some milk tankers
And go anywhere in the country, i could be in kent one day and glasgow the next, I roughly do in the region of 2200+km’s a week
Hope this gives you an insight to my shift pattern

Personally I love that system.
Never done this pattern personally but it does appeal to me, would certainly consider it if my current situation ever changed

It’s my first day on tomorrow 7 am start 6.30 finish but mustn’t complain Ive just had 12 days off which only takes 4 days of my 28 days holiday allowance. If you like family life hobbies watching children grow up school holidays and plenty of free time then 4 on 4 off is the way to go
If none of that appeals to you then become a tramper and be a loner

Same here. Im on the same money as my last job (5 on 2 off), but get more time off. Plus doing overtime/other ad hoc work is easier, without having to worry about reduced weekly rests and things.
We should all be on 4 on 4 off! 
every industry in this country of ours! 
as we’re 24 / 7 
we are so far behind our European cousins, who aren’t stressed driving long hours ( Ross the troll )

That would suit me very nicely. (Not sure about the fridges & milk tanks though).
Done 4 on 4 off for the last 6 years love it, can plan everything at the start of the year
i have a mate of mine doing 4 on 4 off.
he can do 4 on, 4 off, then 4 days holiday on a regular basis. he’s home so much it’s ridiculous.
He only works 5 months of the year. Big, lazy, Bald [zb] is my nick name for him. . He’s the first to admit that his nick name describes him perfectly.
is it the same holiday entitlement on 4on 4 off as 5on2off or is it pro rata…
Depends how you are paid, 4/4 should pay more than 5/2 despite less worked hours due to the weekends, remember for 5 out of 7/8 weeks you will work at least one weekend day (its a while since i worked it out so that might be slightly wrong but you get my drift).
If you want more money you might have the opportunity to work at least 1 and possibly 2 days between shifts as holiday cover etc, holidays brilliant, as said above you get 12 days off for 4 days hol used.
If paid correctly its a good package, but be careful not to be undersold, you might be working less days and less hours but many hours should be at premium Sat/Sun rate.
Pros…
You do less work in a year for the same or very similar pay. Someone on a normal 5 day working week will do 260 work days - 28 days paid holiday = 232 working days a year.
Someone on 4 on 4 off will do 183 working days - 28 days holiday = 155 working days a year. So you do over 100 days a year less work for the same money.
Cons.
For that you have to sacrifice out of a 7 week period two full weekends and three weekends where you’re working either Saturday or Sunday. Not a problem if you’ve not got kids and an understanding missus though. If you’ve got kids it can be a little more tricky but if they’re teenagers and like mine you probably don’t see them much on a weekend anyway.
Personally I would love to work 4 on 4 off. I felt like I spent more time at home than in any other job I did and if I did overtime doing an extra day, it felt just like a normal working week but then I’d still have 3 days off before going back again. I’ve never felt more relaxed, less knackered and not dreading going back to work as when I worked 4 on 4 off. You also don’t have that “■■■■its the weekend I’ve only got 2 days to cram everything in and I’ve just wasted Saturday recovering from work” feeling.

I am sure the legal minimum for a full timer is 28 days but that includes bank holls
