We are 3rd in the most common languages spoken in the world,I have found myself in an RDC waiting room surrounded by foreigners speaking rubbish and been tempted to ask them to leave or speak in a language I am familar with (thats just English then).
Sure I’m not alone in this but I find it insulting if a visitor to my country can’t speak my language or at least have the decency to STFU in my prescence.
As you can imagine when a call centre in India (other foreign countries are available) phones me at home they are greated with so much abuse they have to put the phone down.
And when they listen to you,do you know what they are thinking about you talking, what to them is, a load of rubbish.
What`s the betting when you go on holiday its only in the UK,or if its abroad its to Benidorm or Salou areas where the population is 80% brits

If they are just passing through my homeland I would expect you to be correct. If however they have chosen to live and work here I would expect them to understand me (or at least be in the process of learning English). I would of course do the same if I chose to reside in their neck of the woods.

Quite a good bet to be fair as I consider Spain a second home I often surprise a few by being able to speak a sentence or two in Spanish (I just stick and ‘O’ on the end of everything and speak louder), I would make every effort to learn the language if I lived there though.

It should be compulsory for anyone wishing to live and work in an another country to make the effort to learn the lingo. There should also be a basic language test after a year of residence and if not passed your booted out.
When I was delivering in Germany, I managed for 4 days in Europe without being able to speak the lingo…
A coffee machine/fuel pump/toll booth etc in europe works much the same as one here

By language test- it should be fairly easy and just hard enough that no Tom, ■■■■ or Hariski could pass it wthout having at least made some effort.

Most, if not all foreigners speak several languages, among 16-24 year olds, the UK was ranked 22nd for Âliteracy and 21st for numeracy in a league table of 24 nations, behind Estonia, Poland and Slovakia
I think we need to get our house in order first before we start spreading xenophobic rants. The Eastern Europeans have better literacy and numeracy skills than we do, in order to get to their level of education we really ought to learn their language and not the other way round…

I do feel sorry for guys like you and Dipper Dave. Being a racist or even a xenophobe just means that you suffer from a very low self esteem and live in a hidden world of hatred and failure, in order for you to feel good you can only do so by making yourself feel superior to other races.
You only have to just scratch below the surface and you will find that racists, bigots and xenophobes are big losers themselves that have been bullied in life, have been subjected to humiliation and degradation since their early childhood and have to live their lives under a powerful compulsion to degrade others. They can’t improve their own life, can’t overcome their own issues and the only way for them to feel slightly better about themselves is to try to make others feel the same humiliation they have felt their whole life themselves.
Losers can only feel like winners when they look down their noses at others rather then face their own sense of shame and failure.
