Foreign Drivers - Speak the Language?

Is that anything like Turtle power?

So we should also expect a couple of british drivers in a foreign RDC to " speak the language" or STFU when they are together !!!

Haha, next time I see 2 uk trucks parked up over here I’m going to demand them to speak the local language, so it be Finnish, Norwegian or Swedish

Suomessa puhutaan suomea
I Sverige talar vi svenska
I Norge snakker vi norsk

wonder what the reaction will be

With reference to the “warm” welcome that Steve93 was greeted with regarding his question on this forum: viewtopic.php?f=2&t=114619

Do you think that an English test should become part of the regulations to drive/work in this country?

Obviously this would have an impact regarding UK drivers working abroad, so let’s assume for the sake of this questions we are looking at UK full-time, and ignore being able to do the odd trip oversea’s.

However, if you do think there should be a language test to work in a specific country, at what point (how many days) do you think qualifies as full-time work in a specific country, and thus a language test becomes mandatory?

It should just be part of the DCPC with a compulsory test , pass or fail (to take an English language and grammar course). If that happened the amount of Europeans here would double overnight !!
And i know personally of a scouser (i’m one myself) who had to attend an inquest down by Luton, who had to have the services (i kid you not) of an interpreter !! Just so they could all understand him, he could understand them fine.

My question was intended to provoke people to think about how Steve93 was abused on this forum because he was Romanian.

Steve93 was not abused on this forum because he was Romanian, read the thread again. A lot of people appeared to have thought it was someone doing a wind up or trolling.
Never the less, the idea of a Romanian looking for a job here and asking advice for a job when there is currently a large concensus of public opinion that the public at large do not want more "foreigners coming here " to compete for jobs was always going to provoke a reaction. Something that Steve93 was aware of when he first posted and said…

I m sorry for my english ,and if i bother someone .

Somehow you think asking if everyone here should be able to speak English address this ? How , i’ve no idea.

I can only imagine what would happen if I’d go to the port of muuga and demand russians to speak estonian while in my presence - tanks would be starting their engines in kaliningrad

You’d understand them anyway.

so the problem lies in dipper daves education - if he’d be able to understand a language other than his own, surely it wouldn’t bother him?

wonder what the reaction will be

I know I know!

“YOU WOT MATE■■?”

Most, if not all foreigners speak several languages…

Wot a crock of total ■■■■■■■■■.

I do feel sorry for guys like you and Dipper Dave. Being a racist or even a xenophobe just means that you suffer from a very low self esteem and live in a hidden world of hatred and failure, in order for you to feel good you can only do so by making yourself feel superior to other races.

The folks i feel sorry for the most are those that see racism (or give it a voice) when there is none. Am I wrong in wanting anyone who comes to live and work in this country to be compelled to learn English ?..I’m probably wrong for visitors just passing through though as thats a little harsh.

I do pride myself on being able to communicate a few pleasentry’s in foreign tongues… things like: ‘Please’, ‘Thank you’…Or when out on the pull - ‘Hello my names Pinnochio, sit on my face and I will tell you some lies’ etc.

You only have to just scratch below the surface and you will find that racists, bigots and xenophobes are big losers themselves that have been bullied in life, have been subjected to humiliation and degradation since their early childhood and have to live their lives under a powerful compulsion to degrade others. They can’t improve their own life, can’t overcome their own issues and the only way for them to feel slightly better about themselves is to try to make others feel the same humiliation they have felt their whole life themselves.

As this is akin to some of the self serving drivel I come out with at times I can’t help but wonder if we are related… Perhaps you are not a stranger to prejudice (I can assure you I’m not), in which case I agree totally wth this paragraph as all racists should be hung by their todgers until they feel really poorly (probably only need a small rope for some of us apparently).

So what have we learn’t so far: well perhaps I’m not the racist you thought I was, or just maybe racism is a ‘catch all’ phrase used to dumb down anyone who wishes to stand up for their country and those in it. Just maybe things aren’t black and white and only shades of grey, just maybe I’m waffling a bit…Anyway I was once asked if I was proud to be British- my answer was ‘No’ but I am proud to be ‘English’.

Losers can only feel like winners when they look down their noses at others rather then face their own sense of shame and failure.

Ironically your whole post is a personal attack on those you disagree with, more of an ‘Ad Hominem’ (yep its Google time) input into the discussion than anything else. By attempting to belittle others you have in-turn undermined your own point of view.

None the less perhaps we should look at where we agree rather than where we differ (which after all is the fundamental foundation to racism)

So can we all agree that anyone who wishes to live and work in England (Oh alright Britain) should be forced to learn the language and embrace the culture or risk eviction. The same applies to all countries, although due to our benefit system we are the most popular destination for even the most educated European.

[Edited as I miss spelt Britain  ]
