"Foreign drivers should have to pass a uk test to drive

on our roads"

on our roads"

BBC NEWS | UK | Wales | Mid Wales | Demand to test foreign truckers

That could only have been thought up by the Welsh. So we’ll all have to take a French,Swiss,Italian,German,Austrian,Slovene,Croatian etc etc one just for a run to Italy or Greece.I suppose Rog will say that if we use the Blanc Tunnel and the ferry from Ancona or Brindisi we could get away with just two of those.Anyway it’s just better to stay out of Wales and they could’nt pass a test anywhere else anyway.

Whys that then?

I forgot that Wales is still part of the UK so unfortunately I’ve got a Welsh licence anyway.

Nah - put trailer on ferry at Dover and let them across the water take it - we’ll do the same for them :bulb:

:unamused: More inane crap from a country who claim third world poverty levels yet insist on all signage/ Government litrature being provided in a dead language spoken by less than half of the population of an extremely small country. :unamused:

I thought that was close to what we’ve got now.British imports exports being taken most or all of the way by foreign hauliers while we get the UK part of the work,if we’re lucky. So instead of getting a job paying me £2,000 per run I’ll have to settle for £500 max to run the load through the traffic to Dover and let the poles take the rest.

Bog off .
That means I would have to do UK work, and put up with all those problems I only have to read about at the moment :frowning: :frowning:

"The driver had to follow the court case through an interpreter and admitted he couldn’t speak or read English… that means he can’t even understand our road signs.’

To be fair i can’t understand half the bloody road signs here either.

Carryfast, the family are saying if you move to another country you should take a test, not if you’re just passing thru.

The driver and his employer have to take some blame
Ignorance of the rules when working permanently in a country
is no excuse , How ever how is it that a employer can get away with
letting some one workwhen he / she can not communicate weither
it be the written word of verbal speech, In my eyes the employer should have
carried out a test to confirm that his employee was able to speak and read english to the set level laid down also , that he had knowledge about
the english highway code. The ABOVE ONLY GOES FOR THOSE who
work day in and out week after week, when one visits a strange place
one does try to learn a little bit however no one can be perfect
,please think of the accidents that happen when people out of the UK
come over the water, also some lorrys do make mistakes as well
so it is not all one way,

When I saw that Wales was involved I did’nt read the rest. But I stand corrected.Having said that there’s not a big difference between the problems which any foreign driver could face or get into wherever they are and regardless of wether they are a resident or just going through in transit. There’s been plenty of examples of British drivers having been involved in accidents in other countries while in transit through and finding themselves in trouble in similar circumstances. However if he had no previous convictions (road traffic) where did his 9 points come from?? there’s not many British drivers who would get a job with 9 points on their licence wether they are doing international or UK work. It’s not an issue of licences it’s one of cheap labour and sub standard drivers. But I thought that it was always a condition of residency that foreign cars are re registered here and the British driving test is taken after around a year?.One for Rog to clarify?.I’m just glad that Wales puts it’s signs in English and Welsh because even Serbo Croat is esier to understand even in Cyrillic lettering. However as anyone from here with experience of driving in Eastern Europe knows their standard of driving in general is’nt up to much compared to ours.

Conditional discharge!!!
WTF.

when i was in the army we had to do tests called matrix tests these were road signs from the country you were going to be driving in if u failed u don’t drive in that country simple as wud this not be a good thing to consider to be used here in Civvi street■■?

The Tick-Test was a exam that only concerned the members of
BAOR;and all the rest that came under this, it will never be brought
that people have to take such a test , look it boils down to the driver
most signs are nearly all the same through out Europe, self training
in that each driver is responsible, also yes if living and working
as a resident in the UK then ALL not just johnny form Europe
should be able to know the code, people have been comeing into the UK and
brits have been going over the water , do you think we are 100% perfect
No way,

enit?:
Conditional discharge!!!
WTF.

He’s got a British licence without passing a British test he gets 9 points on it and then causes a fatal accident?,if I’ve read it right.Meanwhile we’ve got young British drivers who can’t get a job because no one wants to insure any one under 25 who’s got a clean British licence which cost them a fortune and multiple British tests to get.

You TOO can change your UK licence for the same in
any of those country’s that have signed up to allow this
so sorry this is above board and completely legal,

Hi guys,

Dont post on here much, but had a theory. Dont know if its stupid or not, you tell me, your the drivers…

(Think this is a relevant thread to post in?)

Well foreign drivers often cause problems on our roads, and alot of British drivers are out of work, so when the foreign trucks come over, there should be a station kind of thing at the port where British drivers go and get the Foreign lorrys so British men (who know how to drive over here) drive the trucks around the U.K so there are alot less problems, then once they are done, take the truck back to the port / station and hand it back over to the forigner to drive in his own country.

The foreigner can either be a passenger in the truck, or stay at a hotel at the port thing?

It will put more of you lot in work, and less problems on our roads…

What you reckon?

I reckon it would be easier to just send the trailer unaccompanied to be taken onwards by a British tractor unit. What would be the point in shipping a tractor unit over from Calais and then putting the driver up in a hotel in Dover?

The reason you have so many traveling here is the UK public wants it all cheap, so this idea puts up the cost a lot of stuff coming in. The great British public will not like safety put over a bargain. You could put some cargo nets on top of the White Cliffs of Dover and the French could fire the stuff across for onward transportation.
