I’m guessing so…was there anything in the Cornish Hauliers thread?
After a long time looking at various topics have eventually registered .
Spent a long time looking through this Transcontinental topic & pics of these motors , ones still with us & others now long gone .
One still in existence which I have not came across on here is a white one reg no. AFB 418V . Does anyone know anything about it , previous owners or workload . Have no photo of it to post , but will put one on soon , although internet searches will provide a pic or 2 .
Another 1 I recall was a double drive unit , used by Wimpey in Scotland , based at Uphall & driven by Tony ■■ , but again photos of this are nowhere to be seen .
On a sadder note , one of the Translink recovery motors has recently been completely broken & crushed for scrap , despite a late attempt to rescue it
Hi Casual Observer & welcome to the forum, look forward to seeing any pics you can post & your thoughts/memories/views. Shame about the Translink Wrecker, I didn’t see it advertised in Classic or Heritage Commercials mags, its a shame cos the Transcon was such an iconic wagon, but so few were made in comparison to the 140/141s & F88/89s of the same era that its good to see them restored etc.
Regards
Hello Casual observer, hope this fills a few holes with AFB 418V. I first came across this one in 1988 based in pontypool south wales working for ‘Durrant Transport’ , it was up for sale oct/nov 1990 , I passed it when trainning for and sitting my heavy goods test at the polo grounds pontypool. From here as far as I know it went to a chap (mr collins I think) at Abergavenny who kept it beside a house where it could be seen from the ‘heads of the valleys’ road. It was used to transport a steam traction engine to various shows. It used to have a picture of a traction engine and a horse if i remember right on its front bonnet, I am sure I saw it november 2010 in a haulage yard next to the main west coast rail line at carstairs .

Many Thanks for above info .
It still has ( for the moment at least ) the Traction Engine & Horse on the cab , & was started up ( started 1st time ) & driven around said yard next to railway . It is in fairly good condition chassis wise & although the cab may be repairable , it will at some point gain a newer better condition cab .
I am aware at least 1 sister Transcontinental AFB 420 V or 421 V worked with Taunton Meat , & wondered it this one had at some point been with them too .
Not overly worked for nearly 20 years doing shows with a traction engine in tow.
adr:
2 old war-horses were still working in 2005!
the one on the right-JAR54N used to be Airflow Streamlines ( Northampton’s main Ford Truck dealer ) wrecker in the 80’s it was painted in a bright fluorescent orange
Don’t have any info on this publicity shot except that it was Lerwick based and tied in with P&O during the oil boom.
AFB 418V was owned by my other half for a while and as far as i know it is still around. I have got pics somewhere i will locate them and post here for you

Hi Tonytranscont,
That sounds about right, I know I was on Air Products when I took it, we used to do a lot of Liquid Oxygen to various Steel Works down that way. The busiest one we did was the Tremorfa Works in Cardiff, they had 2 tanks there & had to have a 38 ton load every 4 hours,24/7, as you were filling 1 tank you could nearly see the gauge dropping on the other tank!
Regards
Chris
The satanist. Could this have been driven by Peter Sutcliffe with a name like that
