Did Curries actually own a Ford Transcontinental themselves or was this the only one that run for them?
Joe Routlege from Aspatria, later owned a couple of Volvos that did tanker work for Curries carrying fuel.
yes curries bought the one joe had and it was driven by harry kirk.

Any snaps of the late Bill King’s Transconti ?
not no more my freind we had it 4 nearly 8 years in our yard in biggleswade,we bought it when it finished work and lived with us spending most of its time shunting till it got diesel trouble and finished up parked in the corner for years till we got bored one day and decided to get it out and running again by which time chunks of rot were hangin off it,we sold it last year to a fellow dealer and he resold it and it seems to be changin hands qiuckly at the moment, trust me whoever takes on the job of restorin that thing is a brave man!, i have some pics of it with us and the day it left us which i shall add on here when i find them, had it been original we would of kept it but it was too far gone to do much with, sad i no but when u got 5 motors u cant finish u gotta let some go,

another pict of curries transcontinental
The Transcon in this pic is a classic 1970’s/1980’s rig…four spots under the centre of the bumper…air horn on the roof…five orange marker lights on the roof…tidy clean paint job…sunvisor…just the way it was

Sorry Ford fans, but give me the Scania any day.
Here’s a pic of our transcon we ran in early 80’s mainly on containers then on general. She was a small cam 335 which was about 273 hp if my memory serves me well. we bought her frrom an independant dealer in leighton buzzard. We finally cut her up early 90’s after she donated her rockwell axle to our C reg roadtrain

Bewick:
Why did Ford insist on “having a go” at the heavy Premiun end of the market when they surely must have realised that they were wasting their time?I realise that the Transcon has now assumed “cult status” but in reality the Transcon was a joke amongst the heavy end of the 70s early 80s manufacturers. Bewick.A lot of o/d’s had them on m/e because of their reliability.
I found mine to be no better or worse for reliability than any other marque.
Why do Scania and Volvo still try to have a ■■■■■■■ competition with 730hp trucks, the speed limit is 90kmh and a 240hp F88 had a design weight of 52 tonnes
