Foden Tipper Tributes

Is Armstrong still running the ex Smiths 4000 series?

He was last week !

here’s a few from my collection.

Dan Punchard:
He was last week !

I think that he is working out of Longcliffe Dan, now that Tarm*c/ LaFarge have closed the quarry he worked from for years! Getting short of places to get stone/tarmac from now in this area… :unamused: Anyone fancy buying a tipper?

Pete.

There’ll only be Smiths left quarrying gravel around here soon, Pete. Hansons at Lechlade is being run down.

i love the picture of the old fg fodens larry . i still think they looked the part in their day , but if you drove one for 5 or 6 days a week you knew you had worked and earned you wages . the gaffer couldn’t rush you though with a top speed of 30mph .

Aye they were two good old motors, They both came from Rush Green, The 8 wheeler with the body tipped up was originally from Portsmouth, The 6 wheeler next to it was one of William Wherrys from Bourne My cousins ran them for a few years the 8 wheeler could carry 16 tonne it had 40 by 8s on it but they changed them to 900X20S As they had lots of spares & of course the 40x8s were starting to be phased out at that time, Regards Larry.

Muckaway:
I believe pound for pound, Fodens’ built some of the finest tippers, ever. From the famous “Mickey Mouses’” to the Daf cabbed Alphas with a 12litre Caterpillar purring away underneath. Powerful, tough and lightweight, there’ll never be a substitute for 'em.

Just thought you chaps would like a couple of photo’s of my brothers Foden, she’s got the cat 400 in and she’s just recently had a refurb, she still works 24 hours a day 7 days a week with no problems at all when business demands have to be met.

Been a Bardon truck at some point in its life?

Hi Dew,
She’s never been a Bardon wagon it’s just a coincidence that the bumper is a similar blue to theirs.
This is what she looked like before. All he did was swap the bodies and give her lots of attention that she deserved and she came out looking just PERFICK.

Fair do’s,

Ours works around the same area as you so were wondering if it was a wagon we knew.

Just thought that you may be interested in one of the Foden’s former owners. Photo taken by me in Bradford, West Yorks 2008
