And shortly to be reborn:

Some memories in those pics, taken me back 36 years!

Pete.

The last Foden we had, Not one of our best ones we ran, but it still made a few bob for us, Regards Larry.

Last & only one at ASCO Yarmouth. Horrible ride, used to bounce so much the gearbox worked loose regularly.
I’ve driven Fodens & thought they were OK, but not this one. Everyone was glad to see the back of it.

Just a few chassis’ up the line from the yellow one that lives at Leyland.

That’s clever: Putting a row of spotlights right where the towing eyes are. Daf towbars are ■■■■■■■■■■ things anyway. Right at the bottom of the storage box behind the passenger sear. They rattle like 'gery if you don’t stack a couple of jackets on top. Not that ever use my towbar you understand…

Are there any TNUK members out there who are also members of the Foden Society? They used to have a good turnout at Bloxham Steam Rally until a few years ago. Some members did attend 2011 but not like they used to.
Also, has anyone heard of JE Sandford? I saw one of their Foden 6w tippers at Bloxham a few years ago; A409 NUD. It was one of Smiths old ones, it was painted a maroon and cream colour. The truck had been named “Flyer Jen”…

You’ve just reminded me I need to renew my foden society membership this month.

This is the last Foden Steamer to be made. As we all know they went on to command the market with their great wagons, until Pacca took over, what a pity they might have still making long lasting proper built BRITISH, gear. Regards Larry.

Has anybody had problems with Caterpillar engines? One of our 56 plate 8wheelers’ turbo blew big time yesterday and a few months back our 56 plate 6w did the same. Header tanks/intercoolers have caused problems with a few Alphas over the years aswell…

The last alpha my dad had gave problems had it rebuilt by finnings and gave trouble fair play to them they put a recon engine in it and last I heard it was still going strong.

We have had a couple of turbo’s go on out 400 Cat C12’s, the impeller just seems to break up, we have had a few cracked intercoolers and I think they fitted a leaky header tank as standard! We had one that filled the sump up with diesel a while ago too, that was the fuel leak off seals on the injectors leaking. We have got one at the min that has got a misfire, not sure if it has got an injector gone down or something more serious.

AshleyP does it miss on full throttle? I had this happen a while back I’m sure they traced it to a faulty fuel filter (secondary one?)
The headers as you say seem a standard fault, our 8w with the blown turbo is a 400 c12. One of our artics had a new intercooler (450). Mine’s been good but about 2 months ago suddenly used a lot of oil and water. No fault found and engine still runs as good as the day I had it new but it looked like I’d not been checking the oil.
The Cat engines are bloody noisy though…

Have now started building a dedicated Edward Beck & Son Ltd site which contains many never before seen images taken from 35mm slides kindly given to me by Teddy Beck.
Over the coming weeks and months more images will appear as the site is developed
Here is the link to the new site address… edwardbeck.webs.com/

This was taken at Charlie Leonards yard at Guisboro.

Every inch a British wagon/trailer/load!
