Flour Millers

windrush:
Smiths at Langley Mill has all gone now Tony, my brother in law has just moved near there on Cromford Road and I was surprised to see a large heap of rubble where the mill once stood!

Pete.

I thought they had and a fair while ago.I used to go up that way on my way to Ikea but now go up the M1 if I go but I assume they’re still there.
A mate of mine used to live in Doveridge was the manager for Pyramid Plant there.

I bet you’re really glad I told you that !!!

COUPLE FROM WILCOX BROCHURE

Taken from a June 1969 copy of Comical Motor , is this advertisement .
I thought it might be of relevant interest to the flour men and the followers of this thread .

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

Carmichael’s tank on Hoynor running gear? Wouldn’t have fancied that at some of the drops we had!

nelstrops had one of those in the 90s , when he was blowing at warburtons the yard was on a slope . it was frightening to watch and i made damned sure i never went near the downhill side . dave

 We had a couple of drops where we had to build up one side of the complete artic combination with scaffold boards and sleepers. I’m sure the Elfin Safety blokes will have been in with their clipboards by now!

Ill try not to scare you again , "Retired Old ■■■■" !! This one of Metalair looks to be a safer bet . Its another advert from June 1969 issue of Comical Motor .

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

A wimp’s bulker, Roy! No excitement in that one.

WILSON ERF TANKER AND CRANFIELDS FLOUR

We took our freshly restored 1947 Sentinel back to Duffield’s recently. This is the first time the lorry has been back to the mill for 48 years.
Duffield’s ran this actual lorry for 9 years between 1959 and 1968. Out of a fleet of 9 Sentinel’s, this is the only survivor.
It is standing outside the old flour loading bay which is now covered in. Duffield’s ceased making flour many years ago and only manufacture animal feeds now.

A couple of photos of Timmis and Tudor, their mill was near Montford Bridge Shrewsbury,it was a ind est for a few years but now been demolished and houses now built on site,Cheers Pete
