Flour Millers

IRISH AND ISLE OF MAN FLOUR MILLERS

SNODGRASS GLASGOW

This came as a surprise last week. We were asked to attend a meeting at the mill and were told about this. At least the news wasn’t an ADM takeover.

One drop to go after this 3t handball in Edinburgh this morning. The very nice French lass there found she didn’t need to rest the bags on her shoulder to carry them…I on the other hand nearly dropped 4 bags at once as my eyes and thoughts were elsewhere.

Did you get told what this exciting and new strategy in place was, like subbing out the transport for example. :open_mouth: :frowning: :unamused:

That did go through my mind actually but it appears to be all office/production based apparently. No mention of transport. Yet.

Well, our reliefs have now lost Cornwall (night out), being done from Monday by a contractor. Subbies are being used to shift a large supermarket order too.
Draw your own conclusions, people. :unamused:

Probably the trips to Grange etc will be next on list, might be best to consider other options. :open_mouth:

Back to the tippers, again?

Maybe the purchase of the 2 new euro 6 DAF motors is making them re-think about their own transport. :open_mouth: :unamused: :frowning:

One’s been spot on, the other likes to show the driver how many warning lights it can display at once. Although a bad dose of adblue is believed to be the cause. In contrast, mine is fantastic, barely uses any. It has a lovely bark too, almost as nice as a Caterpillar with a Jake Brake attached…but not quite. :sunglasses:

I don’t honestly know, Casey. Just weighing things up, home life (got child no2 booked for delivery on New Years’ Day), health (can’t shake this bad back-costing me a small fortune) and job security.
Construction work’s booming, but then a job in food deliveries are pretty secure. For now.

Time was, unless you did something REALLY stupid, you could stay with a firm as long as you wanted. :unamused:

One for Gingerfold,(pic belongs to The Long Drag off past and present thread) Timmis and Tudor long gone and site of mill now contains dozen houses

my dad drove for smiths flour mills in wolverhampton road walsall in the 60’s.they ran flatbed traders, sorry no photos tho !

I’ve not looked at this subject before but Smiths at Langley Mill were big Ford users. We supplied them with a Ford DA2418 ( ■■■■■■■ V8) and they said it wouldn’t pull so one of our salesmen who used to drive for Ernie Richardson at Ilkeston went on a trip in it and it fell over in Stockport very, very gently I think the T.M. was a Mr Smart but can’t be sure. The trailer was too high over the 5th wheel I reckon.I can’t remember what happened afterwards.Smiths used to supply a lot of Flour to Elkes Biscuits at Uttoxeter.

Tony

Smiths at Langley Mill has all gone now Tony, my brother in law has just moved near there on Cromford Road and I was surprised to see a large heap of rubble where the mill once stood!

Pete.
