Flat Batteries, what happened next

A bit like Question Of Sport, I give you a scenario you guess the outcome.

Our work involves some tail lift deliveries, the units have a system called battery guard, it cuts power to the anderson lead socket that powers the tail lift leaving sufficient current in the batteries to start the engine all you have to do is restart the engine on a fast idle while you finish the delivery.

This particular incident occurred to one of our “drivers”, during the delivery the battery guard activated when the said individual was in the back of the trailer, using your knowledge and common sense how did the situation unfold.

Over rode the system to keep using it or didn’t rev the engine high enough when started for long enough ?

Driver phoned depot refused to jump down until ladders or fire engine turned up

I thought the thread would have run a little longer, you are in fact correct, the fire brigade were called to lower the “driver” from the trailer.

This happened when I worked at the co-op. They brought the rule in that you wasn’t allowed to get down if it cut out. Someone from the store called the depot and they called the fire brigade.

I’ve never heard it happen before, but op when you put the question to us, I thought to myself what would “John” do. John is a driver at my depot who is the biggest fanny going and this would have been what he would have done guaranteed!!

While some poor sod could be burning in a building the fire crew is helping miss marple doon!

This is the same guy who refuses this and that and gets away with it. Only driver who doesn’t have a poppy on his wagon because he said it wasn’t safe

Probably every depot in the land has one, you can handle one usually. But if your depot has a good few of them then god help the rest of the grafters.

I’ve heard it all now. Calling out the fire brigade out to get a driver down from about 2 foot up! :unamused: :open_mouth: did they specify aone with a cherry picker on the back? What the ■■■■■■■ hell is this country coming to? :unamused:

could have been a DDer

There must be a percentage of these clowns everywhere out of 240 drivers we have several this one is top dog, some of the worst ones have allocated units, to prevent the endless defecting of just about anything, when I first heard this story I refused to believe it, what motivates these people I just don’t understand why they behave in this way and why without exception are they always useless drivers.

I could have some sympathy if that were the case, it was a standard 13.6 trailer.

Possibly but how the OP has worded it, it seems a normal trailer. But if it was a decker wouldn’t he have tipped the bottom deck then lowered the top deck so he wouldn’t be that much higher up anyway?

Its totally pitiful, the said individual came into the office without the slightest hint of shame as though this was normal, I would be unable to show my face and that goes for most of my colleagues, also nobody thought it was the least bit funny and the child trapped in a burning building scenario was forefront in everyones opinion on the matter.

Trouble Tesco bring in these rules and he’s just followed them.

Some have even asked the store staff to start the lorry, Tesco answer was big no no.

I used to think how much better off we’d all be if the companies got rid of these numpties.

However they do serve a useful purpose, they make the rest of us look brilliant in comparison.

He followed their rules.

  1. the driver got in the cab to re-start the engine and a scumbag jumped in the back and nicked stock
  2. the driver refused to climb down without a safety ladder.
  3. the driver left the engine on fast idle and carried on with the delivery, but someone nicked the truck while hes in the back
  4. the driver knocked the handbrake off and it rolled away
  5. the driver left the engine running and the cab unlocked, and someone nicked his satnav etc

some deckers don’t have moving floors

In a fixed double decker with a tail lift, fair enough, but a standard single decker? I would have lowered the guard/ramp, sat on the end of the lift and jumped down.

The duty manager offered to start the truck but the driver refused as he had not been trained.

This thread highlights everything wrong in the world today.

If you can’t get down safely from a standard trailer tail lift without assistance once in a blue moon, then said driver isn’t fit enough to leave the sofa.
