Hmmmmm…two days and nobody interested in the job?

Makes you wonder, when it comes down to actually doing it, how much some people really want it!! :unamused:

Or do they really want only to be paid to be behind the wheel?..Interesting methinks! :smiling_imp:

I would be interested in the job but Basingstoke in Hampshire to Norfolk is a long way…
I bought a van once from near you from a place called Walton Highway (I think it was) and the poxy thing broke down a few miles down the road causing absolute chaos on the main road

you…

driving something…

and it breaking down… :open_mouth:

NEVER :exclamation: :exclamation:

LOL

Yeah; it’s the place with orange and red livery on white wagons, based at Soham and it rhymes with ‘Burners’!!

Know what i mean?

LOL

Hiya mate good luck with the job, it will be far easier than lugging tyres around.
Have had allot of work there with my agency in the last few months (was going there today but its been cancelled), always a 12 + hour shift, weekend work etc. For a large firm they are quite friendly and helpful and they are taking on class 1 drivers at the moment but i think their rate of pay is low but it includes a bonus scheme (i don’t like bonus schemes). Once you get used to their set up it becomes allot easier 0, +3, +10 stores, bay 62 etc, you will get the hang of it eventually.
Anyway good luck and i might see you around there.
Jon.

This should have been posted yesterday…Apologies…So "First day on the new job…Chapter 2!!

LOL

Well guys…

End of day two training at Turners…

So far,I have driven about 830…feet! :unamused:

LOL

Parking bay to the wash bay…

Wash bay to the tyre changing area…

Tyre changing to the fuel dock…

Then the longest run of all…Fuel dock to the parking bay!! (Does this qualify me as a long distance driver?)

LOL

I have spent 20 hours learning paperwork, rules and regs, fridge set up, paperwork, fueling procedures, paperwork, H&S, paperwork, more paperwork…you get the idea!!

I must say, they are very thorough!! As a ‘newbie’ to the world of trucking, I actually appreciate this…honest…But even I am now itching to just get on with it FFS!!

The good news is that, finally, I am on the road at 4:00 a.m tomorrow morning…pretty easy day…2 drops London,1 drop Brighton then home…

The better news is that I have been given a sleeper cab unit and will be doing some nights out each week, which I am looking forward to. It also means the money is better; which, I’m sure you will agree, is a good thing!!

Oh yeah…My security pass has my name on it as a Barcode…

So from now on, I will no longer be Simon or Spd…My name is…

Thin line, thick line, medium line x 7, thin, thin, thick, thin, medium, medium thick…

Can I have an avatar with this on it please?

LOL

Finally on the road today…YEEEEEEESSSSSSSS!!!..Me driving with ‘old hand’ baby sitting me…supposedly for the rest of the week…

Brilliant day…early a.m. drops in Canning Town and Stratford…then down to sunny Brighton and back to the yard…

Loved every bit of it

Got home a while ago and realised that apart from the inevitable ‘slopped coffee onto shirt’ stain…I was as clean as when I left at 3:00 this morning…Way cool!!

LOL

Back at the yard was told that I did very well…No need for further supervision…You’re on your own tomorrow!!..

Coleshill, Wolverhampton and Smethwick…Here I come!!

You all have been warned!!

LOL

P.S. love the Volvo!!

Nice one mate, i started for the same company just last week on the milk tankers. I’m based in Hatfield Peveral. I’ll give you a flash if i see you, i get waved and flashed at by all the drivers from different depots. I’ll keep my eyes open for a fridge rigid though :sunglasses:

Not all our trucks have Turners Livery though, so if you see a Yellow ERF, or plain white ERF with a milk tanker behind it flash you, it’ll be me, or any Turners coloured trucks with the same tankers behind it could also be me

I had the same, had an old hand with me for the first 9 days, learnt the ropes, paperwork etc, now on my own

I hope you took the proper breaks going so far…and rested if you got tired

The lorry pictured above is that easier to reverse than single artic trailor?
Never got chance in your type in my training.

Got my interview at 10am so lets hope I get my first break.
I’m moaning and only passed on the 3rd lol.
But hate the dole queue. :imp:

Which lorry are you on about mate?

It’s the rigid with a trailor mate

Ah - the reversing difference between a Wagon & Drag and an ARTIC :exclamation:

Both act differently when reversing and each is an art in it’s own right.

Which is easier may be down to a matter of opinion and the situation presented.

Ah right, yeah as Rog said they are both different.

I learnt in a wag and drag, so was taught how to reverse those, then jumped in an Artic and it confuddled the hell out of me. They bend in different places, you dont get over hang with a W&D, and the whole manouvering is a different world.

Ok cheers guys will stick to the artic

just had a thought (rare for me) simon/spd you said turners didnt have many rigids. was it volvo by any chance. because i saw one come out of stainer street under the arches at london bridge and turn right and go down tooley street towards tower bridge. didnt think any thing of it at the time but was this you? do you go that way to your london drop? i seem to remember an earlier post that said your london one was in that area?

No mate; not guilty this time, musta been one of the the other Volvos (I believe there are 3 plus a CF Daf). did not get as far as Tower Bridge. If it’s me, you will probably recognise me as the driver will have that ‘Deer in the headlights’ look…LOL

Had fun in Brum and Wolverhampton today…Daventry, Loughborough and Swindon tomorrow…Think I’m doing Tescos…

If you hear of an unusual amount of chaos in any of these places, I will probably be somewhere close at hand…

LOL

spd0121:
Loughborough

Hmmm… a bit too close to me for comfort…

Well…after a week in the new job, what can I say?..

The Good:

I am still learning lot (read; making fu…errrrr…mistakes)…

I like my wagon…a lot!! (Volvo FM9 26 tonne fridge box)…

My boss is great!!..(just in case she reads this!)…LOL…Seriously tho’ she has been terrific!

The work is sooooooooooooooooooo easy!!..In fact, I am now slightly worried that I will turn into a right fat bast…errrrrr…bigger bloke than I am already…

I come home from work very nearly as clean as when I left…In fact, the evening before my first day, I ‘bulled’ my new workboots to a high gloss finish…After a week, they are still shining like a ‘dollar up a sweep’s ars…behind’!!

Basically…I love it!! Can you tell?

LOL

The Bad:

Wait times to be tipped at certain RDC’s…More about that in a minute…

Lack of facilities at some RDC’s…

The attitude of some RDC staff…

The Ugly:

One specific Distribution Centre…In a largish town (name starts with Swin…) just off the M4 before you get to Bristol…

Without naming names; their logo obviously stands for…Drivers Here Longest…

3.5 hours to tip one friggin’ pallet FFS!!!..What the hell is all that about? Coupled with the attitude of the bitc…ummm…witch behind the check in window…I quote; " A check in time is only the time we EXPECT you to be here. It does not mean the time that you will be tipped. We will tip you when we are ready!“…Pretentious, stuck up, inbred, obese, burger chomping, coke slurping, face stuffing, cow-eyed bloody ■■■…errr…dimwit!!!” I tell you what, she was the perfect poster child for promoting the necessity for a program of enforced sterilisation…the thought that she and her ilk will possibly…no; make that probably, breed…truly bloody frightening!!

This; coupled with Driver facilities that can only be described as disgraceful…All I can say is that I hope I don’t have to go there often…I may have to offer her a kiss…

…Of the ‘Glaswegian’ variety!! Along with a kick in the ■■■■■■■■ that she so obviously wishes she had!!

LOL

Phew!! Rant over!!

As said before…I’m lovin’ it!!

Simon

P.S. Just in case you were wondering…

PSSSSSSSSSSSSSSHT!!! Still the greatest!!

LOL

That made me smile - great post as always matey

PS - pity about the lack of pics though…

… found one that you might be able to use -
