Firms you don't realise go abroad?

Mortimers are no more. They are Broughton Transport ltd even though some trucks still have Mortimer written on them and the Eat more chips logo which is not pattented and used by other firms.

Also Gist.

was on the Portsmouth boat with me last week, he had a 4m trailer with the cord round and something on the trailer to with bikes abroad. :open_mouth:

They transport bikes to racing circuits for track days for enthusiasts  A few years ago they took over a transport firm specialising in motorsport.

I’ve seen b and q in Caen

i work as a tramper for em, and thats not planned until at least Feb 2014. However the truck you saw was prob a PL driver off route a tad.

It was 3 years ago. B and Q trucks with English driver’s as I was chatting to them. They had fridges on collecting flowers. There was 4 of them.

As you said,B+Q (DHL Wincanton or whoever units it is) have been going over to collect plants pulling temperature controlled trailers(not fridges)for years.

Ralphy used to do Kasakhstan and even further East towards the Chinese border. In some areas there were no tarmac roads just mud and pot holes.
Peter Gilder and Sons ltd went that way to t/a Russanglia ltd.
As you can you imagine the trucks were not designed for hardous conditions.
So road side repairs and make do bodge it to get it going until the next garage.Nobody to call out.
There is a Kasakhstan thread on the old timers forum.
In the Shell garage north of Le Mans that was nicknamed Eigors after the big hairy dog,you could see the trucks off the road in Kasak by photos of Ralphy trucks on the wall.

eigors regular stop for me on the way back to caen I rememeber looking at them photos everytime I went in and I still seemed to find a new one

It was a handy stop before Caen.Croque Monsiuers or cheese toasties and an English fry up.
It was a young guy who lived on site with his wife and the skinny guy who was a keen cyclist.
The site is now painted blue and some sort of builders merchants and a weight limit for trucks.
They were friendly too.And lots of photos of Moroccon and Russian trips on the wall.

Cargo Transport from Burton on Trent used to go to France in the 90’s lol. Went once with a mate

Might be having a senior moment here but i recall a couple of Currys(not Curries) motors on Le train.
Apparentley they had collected white goods from Itie.
FL10 units iirc.

Yes I know I was one of the guys that did Kazakhstan, I had an FH with fridge and used to do regular runs to the Chinese Border.
There was a section of tar which was about 7 k’s long on the M32 that we used to call the motor way. It wasn’t worth much and most of the time we used to run along side it on the dirt as it was smoother.

Try Dave Mackies site, dave mackie long haul trucking good photos, it’ can ■■■■ half a day out of you though by the time you cruise through it.

There’s a thread on old timers section, “Off to Almaty” I had a few posts on there.

Jeff…

I work for Atchison Topeka and up until 2 months ago I used to go over regularly but since Bibby have got more involved with us they are now subbing it out to owner drivers and A.I.M logistics so it will be a very rare sighting of one of us over there now.
Pity really as I loved going over there, much prefer mainland Europe to UK work.
Any body need a driver to go over to Europe?,I’m all ears! Lol

you could try Ralph Davies they do work over to Belgium out of that area may be worth a phone call

I think RD may be starting the Christmas citrus rush to and from Valancia for naranjas/satsumas and lemons for the supermarkets.
And in the Reus/Tarragona area they export nuts that way.
While seeing the motorbike racing from Valencia the sun is out and blue skies.Hasta luego.
