Fines

Having never driven in Euroland (and probley never will cos im a strictly Monday to Friday man  ) Im curious to know how often do you guys pick a fine up per year.
Im always reading about the Euro authorities clamping down so as to make a bit of money and I wanted to know how much of your hard earned are you relieved off lets say per year?

Roughly 4 fines in roughly 20 years.
But it is getting worse.

I had one in 4 years, for driving too close in Germany. 100 euro on the spot fine.

Once in Germany for weighing in at 4485kg in a 3500kg Van,€140 fine and my customer had to send another van down to tranship from Malmo to where I was which was Neuenkirchen jct 67,A1…

I was fined on the spot in Belgium for ‘alledgedly’ driving too close and ‘alledgedly’ driving across the solid white line on the corridor hard shoulder. Both were utter bol socks. The truth of the matter was the copper came up the slip road, I moved over to let him in, he stayed at the same speed as me for 3km before slowly backing up. He left me a small gap then said I was too close to the Spanish truck in front.

Incidentally the Spaniard was pulled and fined too, I don’t know what for as he seemed to be driving perfectly ok to me. As for me, they didn’t seem to like Irish plated trucks and were miffed that my tacho’s were legal. Maybe they thought it was payday and got a bit p’eed off :imp:

I’ve had one fine in the last several years (touch wood) and that was the first one in several more years.
My Euro Authorisation ran out on the last day of April that year, I came off the ferry on the 1st of May and got a tug. I can’t remember the fine, but it was A LOT, €600+ :open_mouth:
My boss had the new Authorisations on his desk, but forgot to put them into our folders. He had also been taking a day off that Sunday when we all left, so even if we’d noticed we couldn’t have done anything. 1st of May is also a Bank Holiday, so transferring the fine money to me proved to be a huge problem. I paid the fine and my boss paid it back to me straight away as it was his error. (An Authorisation says on it “most be produced on request by the relevant authorities”, or words to that effect. Mine was out of date, I couldn’t produce an in date one, therefore I wasn’t authorised to do work in Europe).

I get a tug every now and then, much the same as over here.
I don’t usually have any problems, even if my tacho’s are not squeaky clean or other things are not quite 100% perfect. Other drivers I’ve spoken to seem to get huge fines for extremely minor ‘mistakes’. I expect the authorities over there apply the ‘attitude test’, the same as the authorities over here do…

Got stopped and fined once in germany for overtaking in a no overtaking stretch of the A3 autobarhn near frankfurt , and so did the dutch lad who overtook us ,lol cost us 30 euro

Fined in Germany for overtaking. Which i didn’t do.
Fined again in Germany, Can’t remember what for. So i probably did it.
Fined in France for overtaking and travelling too close. I did do that one.
Fined in Romania for a dangerous overtake before a roundabout. I overtook, But it wasn’t dangerous. Thick [zb]s wouldn’t take a bribe.
Fined twice in the UK for tacho offences, Both overturned. They cocked up.
Arrested in UK a couple of times, and once in Belarus.

It’s a good life.

I got stopped near irun just before xmas on the Pamplona road by guardia they thought truck paperwork was out of order so 1,400 euro fine after half hour of explaining they was ready to park me up till said fine paid, the other officer noticed it was all correct so luckily they let me go,i even had a couple of mistakes on the digi card by going over driving etc etc but said I was ok on that due to a lot of previous breaks, and wasn’t interested.

a few weeks ago in sweden, no written instructions for carrying an ADR load - 350 euros
last year, aire de montelimar, had to get to the loo fast so parked in a totally empty (minus a few spanish fridges) bus park - 22 euros
2006 - crossed the border from ukraine to slovakia with a full tank instead of the legal 200l - ca €400

there have been a few and far between backhanders, nothing really worth mentioning. all in all, pretty cheap for 8 years of driving all over europe and some parts of asia

So if you get fined for truck paperwork out of order, or not having correct ADR documentation etc does your company pay this?
Id be pretty ■■■■■■ to be lumped with a 1400 euro fine knowing you would be working 3 weeks for nothing!!

company would have paid but speeding and motoring offences is down to you

Also down to the driver is going thru 11t weight limit in artic to get cigs at la jounqera. nearly made it…

I’ve been done for overtaking in Germany, one of those long motorway stretches with no repeater signs in the old days when Romanian trucks went uphill at 10mph, speeding and following too close in France, and had several dozen fines in eastern Europe for “Having more money than they do”.

Never been fined or even asked for tacho and that’s in 8 years on regular euro work .i recon i prob been stopped about a dozen times only ever been asked for cmr or documents

Got fined €90 going through the forest south of Bordeaux for overtaking a Dutchman who stuck her to the road after cops pulled out in front of him having caught him speeding, explaining that I had 18 horses behind me and I couldn’t stop suddenly didn’t do me any good, Dutch guy refused to pay and got carted off.
Fined in €90 in Poitiers for having no rear plate on a trailer, despite the fact that I only went into the town to try and get a replacement.
Fined €100 in Spain for a tyre that was starting to disintegrate.
Fined ÂŁ260 in Portsmouth docks for an axle overload.
Not too bad for 15 years all over Euroland.
