Don’t see many fast trucks any more the odd one but in the last few years less and less yes I know it’s silly and dangerous but allways makes me smile last Saturday about 5am on the m25 I see a lovey blue scania with side pipes v8 by the sound of it and he must of doing 70 when he went past me it’s a bit like being in a car late at night when your going down the motorway and you get that Ferrari f40 poping and banging as he bast past you yes it’s not big and not clever but makes me smile who have you seen
Huh, these days I get excited about the width of the needle past 90k’s…
Where’s all the fun gone eh?
Crazy innit, just before all the lights start flashing when you’ve allowed the weight to get you up to the heady heights of 59mph downhill, it feels like you are flying.
Remember the good days of cruising at 70 all day long, with lots in reserve if you wanted it, and still only doing 1100 rpm.
Haven’t seen a fast truck that wasn’t going down hill for a long time, can’t remember the last one

You obviously don’t spend much time on the A40 from Carmarthen to St. Clears then!
Mind you since VOSA have opened up the new truckstop at Carmarthen cattle market (for some reason it only seems to open on Thursday nights ) even Paddy Betz (aka Nolans) seem to have eased off a bit.
Had a man trying to sell me a v reg man 8-224 7.5 tonner today said it good for 90 mph and no limiter used to run a leyland 11-15 that would do 80 after a pump tweak
my old truck (red megaspace) which is pic’d on this forum was up at 58mph and it felt like i was flying, i passed grayham a while ago on the m4 and he even said i was going a bit fast
i prefer to have a decent speed truck but the 1 i drive now only does 53-54 which is fine by me as am paid by the hour
Last truck I had, MAN Tga 460 would do 100 kph all day long but only read 90 on tacho, covered some serious distances double manned in a shift, new one only 91 and feels even slower.
Funny I should see this topic tonight.
Just got in from work, had the wife’s lethargic 1.2 clio today for work (won’t bore you with the reasons)
Came off the A17 on holdingham roundabout to head down the a15 Sleaford bypass close on the tail of a foreign Volvo, looked like a Hungarian red plates and seperate white ones ■■ As we hit the straight I’m doing 60 with my foot to the floor waitin for him to hit his limiter, road was clear ahead and straight, fair due to the fella he moved over a little and gave a left flick on the winkers, trouble is the fella is still pulling away from me, 65,66,67,68,69,70,71,72, at 70 freakin 2 he finally hits the wall and I spend the next several hundred yards closing the gap to pass, in all honesty I wasn’t in a rush and less than a mile from home now but I made the pass and gave thanks as I went past, 72 in the ■■■■■■■ wet on an A road, unreal.
Owing to reasons I’m not going into, I’ve been given our shunter to tramp in, its an X reg dat xf
480, it just have its chassis an wheels sprayed so looks tidy, it reads 56 on the tacho but revs around 1600 rpm, it passes everything including the Irish, I’m sitting in Aberdeen at the moment writing this and this old daf hasn’t been passed once this week, funny though no matter how fast you think you truck is a national express will always walk away from you.
the last proper fast trucks to pass me were either o’reilly freight from ireland, although i imagine they’d been played with or as proper truck trucks go , it would have ben the old leyland T45’s Conway Bailey Transport used to run out of cornwall , they were proper storming on

Weve not long sold a T reg 8.224 with the eaton gearbox good for over a 100mph knackerd the tacho .
Those Crazy Germans
felixtowe to fleetwood in just over 4 hours for a full days pay.
more time at home, and more money for less work. good times.
Theres a truck with a certain firm i work for that does 59mph, Ive never been passed when driving it and the only truck ive never been able to get passed was Yuill and dodds volvo fh16 700… but matched its speed so its quick aswell. It just doesnt help when sainsburys “driver of the month/year” decides to pull out to overtake at todhills when im steaming up on him…and hes doing 48mph. Was really hard not to nip into the 3rd lane and get passed him as i was still stuck behind him passing gretna
my 03 reg 470 scanny won’t let much pass it!!! there are a couple of our irish cousins that can but the likes of nolan’s stand no chance, just walks all over them.
My 02 reg I had on coltons did 64. Used to laugh at the Nat ex coaches as I flew past. Loads of other drivers used to shake the head at you, but did get a few thumbs up. Used to love that motor
Why would you want to drive a truck fast speed=danger speeding in a vechile that weighs 44 tonnes is not a good idea I’m not gona look it up but I’d guess that the stopping distance at 70 mph is considerably more than at say 50mph there’s far to much trafic on the roads now days to do those speeds safely
Reference my last post, I got my arse handed to me by an fh on the A96 this morning lol
Was on the M42 last week & was passed by a 7.5 Iveco tipper, I was in the works van a Merc Sprinter on the limiter doing 70mph, he came past me like i was stood still! Must of been doing 80ish, made me laugh

You would`nt have been dragging a big Horse Transporter at the time would ya■■?
Is that you Charlie?
Last one I followed doing good speed Ironically was one of “Steady Eddie’s” Scumya’s, past Killington lake southbound down the hill I had 63 on the Sat Nav and he still pulled away! Got him on the next climb though.
I still remember the Irish 4x2 Scumya that passed me one night though, I was doing about 55 and there was a 6 wheeler DAF passing me at around 56/58, behind him was the Scumya, once the DAF pulled in, the artic alongside me dropped a gear (already doing 57/58?) and proceeded to pull up to about 68 before he’d passed the DAF and disappeared!
