ERF 'European' (1975)

ERF-NGC-European:

On a sunny day with the tin of white paint in front…quite a livery

I notice there’s one of these on ebay this morning  . I’m not the seller, so no vested interest!

Vanman to the rescue again! He reposted from FB a fine picture of Eric Vick’s Transcon on another thread this morning (see below), along with a new picture of the freshly repainted KFH 249P taken from a slightly different angle from the pictures we already have of that occasion. Diligent searching there :sunglasses:

For reference, here are the two pictures taken at the same time by the painter and signwriter, William Mills just after he’d repainted 249. They were supplied to me by Deanb for the 3rd book:

Possibly an answer of the other Sanbach-located manufacturer on the introduction of the ERF “European” as per attached pictures.

The company “Novarobel S.A.” was only 5 miles located from CDB and after the sales of the NGC- and B-series stagnated, CDB did
a try with Foden themselves.

Strange enough Foden threw in the RR with max output of 325hp and the spec in the picture deals with 218hp/2100revs and a Foden
8 or 9 gearbox, as well as Foden front- and rear-axles. Perhaps Foden didn’t want to ‘risk’ troubles with CDB on ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ but
the slogan “if you can’t beat them, join them” was unknown by then?

No sign of some sales by Novarobel S.A. but perhaps some readers (TIPTOP-ERIC) know more?

The map with location-dots is (speaking for the continent) mostly an indication of RR-representatives
and I doubt if Foden also furnished them with other spare-parts than RR-related.

By the way, to highlight my thougths …has the UK ‘only’ that small amount of Foden-representatives?

Why didn’t you put this on the Foden thread?

ERF-Continental:
For those who are interested some documentation

The Foden D/F is from the Belgian market in which CDB did their best to exclude both Gardner and Rolls Royce
as Messrs CDB were sole importers/distributors for ■■■■■■■ even before WW2

Well, there were some DOUBTS why I posted it here, but as we ALL KNOW ■■■■■■■ Distributor Belgium (CDB) was an important player in the
field of 1) Assembly of the first series of 5MW-cabbed ERF’s and 2) Their involveness into border-sales e.g. France (Loste etc) and 3) Their own
action to import and represent Foden themselves, so I don’t understand the “cildish” attitude of our Chopin-enthousiast but sic

Not an ERF, I know, but the company ran six NGCs and two B-series in Arendonk, Belgium. Terrific picture (found online) of one of their Krupps here!

Also found online (during the last week of absent TN) are these pictures of PKC kit models of NGCs.

The season’s greetings to all! May it be peaceful. No idea who made the image but it fits the bill nicely.

Happy New Year Colin! I tried the link but it said ‘no longer available’ (and I’m not on FB anyway!).

Is it a newly found piece of film about VIJORE? I got a message this morning saying that there was one on FB showing the first trip down to Baghdad with HDF 228N (5MW-cabbed ERF) and ODG 666M (A-series with pigeon-loft sleeper) both leaving the yard with VIJORE tilts in 1975. I was also sent a ‘still’ from the film.

Another still…

Hi Ro, hope you’re keeping well. The 7mw is coupled to the fridge trailer behind the traction engine. Or maybe ploughing engine, hard to tell.
I will try to attach a still or two. Bet the driver of the A series was thinking (why can’t i take that one?)

Well done for capturing that image, thank you :sunglasses: . Hope you’re keeping well. I’m fighting fit (but if you ask my liver the same question post Boxing Day it might give a different answer  ). That 7MW and fridge did Baghdad trips too, I understand. I imagine the A-series driver will be glancing at the Eric Vick day-cabbed Seddon that used to go down there with them, and thanking his lucky stars  .

Take care mate.

PS ^^^ The RR NGC must have been brand new, as it still has no air-con on the roof.
