Exactly! Further up the page you can see that this combination was capable at 105 tons up. I can add that one of the tales in my forthcoming book includes news of this combination climbing a 1:7 hill at this weight. We are talking about a serious lorry here, chaps! Robert

This dragline weighed 45ton. GEH 513N and the Tasker low loader weighed 18ton, so if you allow a couple of tons for the dolly all up weight would have been around 65tons.

Thanks for that, Colin. Here’s another pic, this time with a different load. Robert
Is the forthcoming book just about the ones used for heavy haulage Robert? If not, you might want to change course here
How much “Europeans” were actually used for the heavier side of things?
Cheers, Patrick

Quite number were used for heavy haulage, as they were powerful for the day and strongly built. However, I won’t be focusing on heavy haulage in book 3 because I’ve already used too much of that material in the first two books. My focus is largely on the Middle East and many NGCs that started on long-haul or Europe work ended up on heavy haulage so there is much overlap. Cheers! Robert

DEANB, that is FANTASTIC! What an excellent find! Because of the Middle-East context, it’d be a great photo to use in my series. Have you any idea who took the picture?

The Coles crane in this picture was origionally based at Potters Marsden in Leicestershire where Redland made concrete pipes. It was operated by Albert Lockwood before shifting to the Poole depot. The photograph shows it returning to Leicestershires Buddon Wood Quarry. Dave Wallace used to be loaded by Albert with this crane out of Potters Marsden when driving for Doug Harrison of Leicester so a coincidence he should bring it back from Poole.

This picture shows why the platform extension was fitted to the Tasker low loader, so that the Advance roller and Blaw Knox could be carried as 1 load(although a tight fit)
A good run up the bed of the trailer had to be taken to get the roller on to the back bridge. On more than one occasion I think it was a bridge too far!

Blimey! Robert
Someone asked me today how many of the UK registered NGCs are known to have been scrapped, and if there are any we don’t know about that may be lurking in barns! Well, many heads are better than one. Here’s my list of the ‘scrap’ status of NGCs from the UK. If anyone can correct or update the list below, then we’ll all be wiser!
These were scrapped:
NFH 120P
KFH 250P
GEH 513N
HNV 59N
PDF 444R / Q691 NTR (probably the same unit)
These were sold in the Middle East:
KFH 248P
KFH 249P
JLG 35N
JDF 132N
This was converted to a day-cabbed B-series and converted to RHD
KFH 251P
Don’t know what happened to these:
GDS 543N
KDM 460N
MMG 772P
KRH 153P
Q824 RGC / HMO 220N (probably the same unit)
Cheers, Robert

Brilliant!! Good heavens, Dean, you’re on a roll this week! This is a new picture to me (and to this thread). To answer your question: yes, January '73. The registration number looks to be French. It doesn’t appear to match any of the ones I know about, but perhaps someone with a good eye for number plates can make something out. Here is a list of the number plates of French tractive 4x2 units that I know about:
3987RM50
5673KH59
8814GV59
813AMH75
7011KG78
1557PF89
7650DA93
7601RR91
785AHD75
Does it match any of them? We don’t know the reg number of the NGC on demonstration to Laiteries Preval in Vire, so it’s possible that it was that one. If we can’t find a match, then DEANB has found us a ‘new’ NGC - alleluyia! Robert
