These threads, and Robert’s books, show that the internet is a great aid to old lorry writing. The assumption that the publication and sharing of information, on forums like this, undermines the viability of “proper” books is surely debunked by Robert’s example- he has made loads of new mates, dug out mines of information and published three respected tomes, using a combination of internet research and old-fashioned shoe leather. I expect that the sales of the books have paid everyone involved a fair wage, despite some of the content appearing for free here. Anyone who slings mud at that should question their own value to the historic vehicle fraternity.

Never mind, it’s hard to get excited about it when you are dealing with one person who is masquerading as five different people, using three separate monikas! Robert

Thank you Anorak. And nicely put. It is posts like this that give me the will and the strength to continue my quest. Posts that sneer, on the other hand, are quickly forgotten. Robert

However, I must admit that I’m a bit curious where those “accusations” are coming from…

Thanks Patrick. Very much appreciated. Low Countries.
For the record, the royalties I receive don’t even cover the expenses I incur when touring the country interviewing people and staying in local accommodation. I write these books for fun, because I love these old ERFs. If I wanted commercial gain I would written books about F88s on the Middle-East run! Robert

Well, one does get that idea that the whole project was done for fun, because of the sheer enthusiasm that one encounters whilst reading it
But a book about F88s doing M/E work, now isn’t that a cracking idea
